Best "U Pull It" yard in Denver for Dana 300?

For those of you that have recently been to any of the "U Pull It" type yards around Denver, where is my best bet to pull a Dana 300 from a CJ?

I'm coming down from Ft. Collins so I really don't want to spend the whole day driving to different yards. I've never been to any of the yards in Denver so I don't know where to start, checked out online inventories for a couple different yards but didn't find anything.

Any suggestions?

All of the CJ's I've ever seen in any junkyard around town have been pretty much a bent, rusty tub, frame and little else.....

Maybe post up in the wanted section over on CO4x4..... someone over there is bound to have one.

There's a couple on Craigslist...... for $300 or more......

I've been watching CL for a couple of months and most are priced around $300, anything even close to $200 sells faster than I can pick up the phone. I was hoping I could get away with pulling one myself for about half that.

A buddy of mine suggested Colorado Auto Salvage, he said they used to regularly have 3-4 in the yard at a time but he hasn't there been in about a year. Anybody been there recently?

I was there recently but don't recall any CJ's but I also wasn't looking for one. You can go to their website and pull/search a list of what they currently have, or you can just call them. They have been pretty responsive when I have called.

Colorado auto Salvage has changed the way they do business in a big way. They turn over their inventory like the UPAP lots do so stuff doesn't sit around long. I walk thru that yard monthly...... No cj's

David you crack me up with your avatar....

Keep an eye out on co4x4 there's usually one there for a decent price. If you do find one for 200 pick it up.
What other vehicles did they come in? I know some fords had them IIRC.

I checked Colorado Auto Salvages website before I posted but didn't know how accurate it was.

I check CO4x4 too but usually they're about $300 on there too, guess I'll have to start watching more closely.

Not many vehicles had them, CJ's had the 300 from '80 or '81-'86 and certain scouts had them too but scouts have a different bolt pattern. I need one from a CJ.

Even then not all CJ D300s are the one you want, every CJ D300 I have found in the yards had the texas style bolt pattern.

D300s are actually pretty common in the yards - WITH the texas style bolt pattern, which doesn't do you any good.

Are you sure about that? I thought the only D300's that used the Texas pattern were Scouts. Prior to the 300 CJ's used a Dana 20 with the Texas pattern.

Which yards have you found D300s recently?

All I can say is I have found 80+ CJs that should have had a D300, and they didn't(and not as in they didn't because it was already gone, which I've seen too, but that it was there and wasn't what it should have been).

Which either means:

- its original and not a "proper" D300.
-its non original and transmissions have been swapped around(FSJ).

in any case what it boils down to is that trying to find a D300 in the yards is about like trying to find a ford HP Dana 60 front axle - you get pretty lucky every now and then to find a dodge D60, but never a ford HP D60.

A XJ D44 rear is much more common, and even then its unlikely that you would find one in the yards any given day - basically to find a D44 rear you just have to get real lucky and find that XJ the first day or two its out in the yard, I would imagine a D300 would be about the same type of thing.

So it sounds like I just need to plan on spending $250-300 for one.

yup. unless you get super lucky and just happen to catch one before someone else robs the D300 out of it.

Keep in mind that there are high demand parts that the first person to see them, are gonna take em. So if your not the first, then your SOL. (kinda like if you only ever wanted to date a girl that was a virgin, sometimes you find em, but more than likely someone else has beat ya to it)

Got it, Dana 300's are like HP60's and virgins.
