just as it says-do i need to be looking for a deep cycle or what? 5500lb winch what size of battery do you guys suggest-trailer has no charging system just want a battery on it in case i need it i can charge it myself for as much as the trailer is used.

a marine deep cycle battery would probably be your best bet, you're going to want a battery that can handle sitting and going dead without ruining it.

NAPA has a battery called the "Stowaway" its made to sit for long periods of time, maybe look into one of those.

I always thought I'd need a deep cycle or something along those lines for the 10,000 lb winch I have on my trailer...... but I simply started off using a spare battery from an XJ I parted out 3 years ago and it's still doing just fine. I end up giving it an overnight re-charge probably 2x a year. And I use the piss out of it (I haul scrap cars to help fund my XJ habit....:D) That battery probably has 50-60 pulls on it, and 6 re-charges in 3 years.

Contrary to that...... my buddy has a car trailer and he probably uses the winch on it 3 times a year. And he's always re-charging his deep cycle before going out to use the winch..... Dunno how old the battery is though.

:dunno:
