Cuz there's no replacement for displacement.

Seriously. Why go through the time, effort and expense just to end up with 6 cylinders. A guy would be better off with a stroker......yeah, I said it.

Your killin me Frank........you yourself went through it  You had a bad experience with it......... and many other things!:gee: You bit the bullit and took the time to stuff a GM V8 in your rig :puke:........ I do give you props for a job well done though :yelclap: Seriously though, there are 6 cylinders as well as 4 cylinders out there that will smoke your 8...... Displacement has it's place but you do not HAVE to have it!

Not in a 4000 lb, SUV bodied, lifted, geared 4x4 on 35's.......... :D

Give me the same about of money spent to build that 4 or 6 to dump in a v8 and that v8 will stomp both of them every time.

I want someone to build a stroked, bored, turbo'd, supercharged, NOS injected 2.8 and see how long it lasts before reaching critical mass and throwing parts all the way to Wyoming.

damn! I'd give that just for the rust free body around here. Looks like a V6 though.

Not if the driver sucks................. :twak: and I have seen built 6's smoke a built 8!

yep and the BME top fuel dragster makes 8000 HP and last time I checked they use V8's, so what's your point. :twak: O and another two :twak: :twak: for making a comment just so you can be right in your own mind.

I've given up for the time being, and that dude is smoking some serious crack if he thinks he can get $1200 for a beat up mine used 1994 shell with no engine and no title... Yeah, the motor mounts are done, but seriously, that just isn't that hard...

Agreed... that would be a lot more impressive if it was a V8 swap setup. From what I've been told, a 4bt is mostly about ripping wires and stuff out, not putting complex new stuff in...

the only wiring hurdle with a 4bt is trying to get a working tach signal using stock gages. More difficult is the various fab issues for motor mounts, tranny mounts, and generally finding enough firewall clearance for the exhaust/turbo -- My math was indicating I'd end up spending about $4-5k on the swap, including around $3k for a 4bt engine in decent shape. I honestly abandoned the idea after reading too many testimonials about how friggin loud they are, even with dynamat and other vibration/noise taming products. clatter just isn't my idea of a good time on the trail.

Assuming I ever find any free time I'll be looking into tach signal generation for 97+, it's theoretically simple... just have to insert the proper messages in the CCD bus message stream. 96- should be easier, especially as I'm fairly certain the tach signal to the gauge cluster is the same for the RENIX and OBD-I+96 gauge clusters (need to verify), which just take an analog voltage or frequency based signal.
