The MJ is an XJ missing half the roof a potential set of doors and only has.half of a hatch...From my perspective it should be worth only half that of the full XJ , and since this is even more spartan it should be doscounted more ...:eyes:

The MJ crowd likes the minimalist approach...they all sit around in Black turtleneck sweaters reading bad poetry snapping their fingers in applause ...a more modern clip would actually reduce value to said buyers market.

Amazingly well said. A side of expensive coffee with that.



However, I would have kept my MJ if I took the time to do the front clip.

While it looks to be very well done, I've got to disagree on the price.

Unless someone is REALLY looking for an XJ done to that style, and has money to blow, I think the seller is going to be looking at getting about half of that.

At the end of the day, it's a very clean, slightly lifted 1994 Jeep Cherokee that has had some cool body work done with some minor maintenance. There's no mention of mileage in the ad either. Unless there's a whole bunch of stuff in that build thread that he didn't care to put up in the ad...I don't see much otherwise special.

Unless a guy was to do the body mods, body work and paint HIMSELF..... there's $7K in paint and body in that rig easily. Add the lift, tires, wheels, a decent MJ bed to chop up, and the cost of a clean 2 door XJ.

What's the going shop rate for a decent paint and body shop now? Around $80/hr? $10K only buys you 125 hours...... That's only 3 days of work if they put their nose to the grindstone.

I'd drop $10K in a hurry if I was looking to buy. I dig this build because they used a 2dr. Much easier to get in and out of and there's room behind the seats.

At this point in life, with my jacked up knees, back and shoulder, I'm gonna be farming out the build on the Eliminator. As I don't expect to paint it, I'm anticipating a good sized bill in labor to swap out the entire drive train, do the axles, lift, bumpers and such.

Still gotta disagree.

Putting paint and bodywork in there, is like putting labor for having a lift installed in there as well.

We're talking a 22 year old Jeep Cherokee, not a 70's charger, or any other classic or muscle vehicle. So, if this XJ didn't have the back cut off, what would it be worth? A newer model, just as clean with low miles goes for 4-5k. A small lift and tires adds maybe $1k (though usually next to nothing).

So, does the chop justifiably add $5k?

Everytime a rig like that comes up (minus chop) all we hear is the "not worth that much", "they're adding in labor" yadda yadda...and IMO this is no different.

You might drool over it, but you're probably in the 0.1% niche that might be willing to pay upwards of that. Me...if I wanted that, I'd just buy a short bed MJ.

You're gonna pay north of $10K for a short bed, clean, rust free H.O. era MJ done to the level that Cheromanche has been done.

It's happening. MJ values are rising.
