Have 90 XJ 4.0. Need to know best aftermarket fuel pump assembly. My pump works but fuel gauge does’nt register correctly. Worked fine before shop changed the pump. I’m thinking the float or sending unit is defective. Want to change out with best assembly available. When at 1/4 tank mark I still have 10to11 gallons of fuel. Heard good things about Delphi. Can’t find a Bosch full assembly.

Do you have a 13.5 or 20 gallon tank? I replace my assembly and fought for a year adjusting the float but could never get it right (either read too low or too high, pulled the assembly at least 10 times). I had a 13.5 tank finally went to a 20 and had to bend the float back to factory and it read just fine. I was unable to locate a 13.5 specific assembly, but the tank was in need of replacement anyway.

Thanks for your reply. Have 20.2 gal. tank. 4.0 injected. Talked to shop about it. Not sure they were aware of the different tank sizes. I kind of of suspected they may have installed wrong pump assembly. Not sure if 20.2 is slightly deeper. Anyway going to to change assembly. Original assembly was a Bosch but are unavailable. Have heard that Delphi is good choice (formerly AC Del co). Have had pump changed twice in 300,500 mi.s Have new engine and a ton of more stuff on vehicle. Working to restore it. Didn’t have issues with other 2 pumps. Thanks for your input. ED H.
