BEHOLD!!! something built 20 years ago that puts us to shame

what about the dodge neon srt4? I always think of a yellow neon when I think srt4, and those cars are amazing... I hate the POS normal neon though (which I think of as blue).

I always think of older farrari's as being yellow also...

wait, where has this discussion gone? The COLOR of performance? LAME.

We should all be drooling and arguing about the .125" taken off of those RENIX cylinder walls!

I bet wolfpackjeeper wants to take his head, crank, connecting rods, and cam, and slap them in a 4" RENIX block so he can have some extra displacement!

I know I'd like that too...

Yeah.

RENIX block bored out to 4.000"

12-cw crank offset ground to 4.000"

Probably need custom rods and slightly modified pistons with that combo - but that's just short of 302cid (301.593, to be exact.)

Quench compliance, MeOH fog, and a Whipple pushing some 3/4 or so ATM.

I've had a build like that in mind for quite some time now. Take an XJ body, and put it on a diet - I don't see why I shouldn't be able to shed 300# or so from kerb weight.

Methane hydroxide and ~10psi on a low compression, 4" square stroker? sounds ambitious, but I aint gonna stop you! haha.

and I'd say your offset grind is a better alternative to achieve that elusive 5.0L than getting a larger bore and resleeving the cylinders...

widebody kit?

it is just a lower front bumper to act as a spoiler, and I think a slightly different rear. everything else is the same, including the sides and flairs.


edit: and I think that the front bumper can be had if you can find an original "Street Comanche" but good luck, I think the numbers on those were less than 2000. You might be able to get one of the euro XJ bumpers shipped over here. Some of those looked like that.

I remember those articles when they built that truck, those flares were custom made for that truck and a desert style sibling and was also covered in another issue of Hot Rod that year.

Same here, at least one of the trucks should be at Chrysler's museum (I think that's where the above pic was taken.)
 
Werent they four bangers as well? I know it sounds silly, but Im trying to see if I cant get the front spoiler from a Volvo to fit up to my 97 bumper. From the test fitsit would look good I think. Would probly work on earlier models as well, (i.e. MJ) and would look more aggresive than what Jeep had for the street editions.
 
I have a front airdam like that still unused but i'm not willing to part with it, but if some one need or wantted to make a mold for them it could be aranged
 
IMO there's nothing special about the Renix era blocks; Having sonic checked over a dozen HO and Renix blocks. I've never seen an obvious advantage (significantly thicker or more regularly cast bore walls) in any of the modern Jeep I6's including older and later 258's (which tend to have the thinnest bore walls of them all even compensating for overbores and wear) , and the material velocity of all of them are consistent with high nodular iron all the way back to 70's 12 CW crank 258's. I've found no increase or decrease in Nickel at least that I could observe (significant amounts of change would show as a change in the sonic velocity needed for accurate sonic checking).

Indeed the best block I've looked at was a mid 2000's NVH (noise vibration harshness). By definition a block that has noise and vibration improvements is a stiffer block.

Last thing, I think there are dozens of builds in the past and currently that would whip that MJ... That's just the only one that's been in a Hot Rod mag.

Sorry but 14 seconds from a centrifugally supercharged (terrible choice for the application, probably only chosen because it fits nicely) non-intercooled Renix 4.0? Dino's normally aspirated budget built stroker mould give that thing a close race... There have been plenty of garden variety strokers, and even some nearly stock 4.0's (how about quickjeeps Nitrous 4.0 that runs 13's?). And last but not least there's Garth Hill's old NHRA 8 second normal aspirated 4.0, that was brought up on the stroker forum recently.

Not to make this into a giant plug but if you think that thing is the height of I6 performance, you should check jeepstrokers.com out. We got a guy over there blowing head gaskets with 16lbs of boost on purpose to find the weak links, a Guy with a 306ci 4.0 stroker (who also has a boosted stroker) and a guy who's building for a Land Speed Racord Comanche among others.

Im guessing by it you mean jeepstrokers.com? People over there arent as hyped about this (check the pub). Probly because a stroker is the norm over there, and boosted ones are becoming commonplace. Here a stroker is still more than what most have done, let alone a boosted one.
 
what about the suspension? could anybody help me out with that information? i have an 89 Eliminator and want to turn it into a street jeep but cannot find a better suspension for it. any links or information would greatly be appreciated. this comanche is what drove me to want my very own street jeep. :kissyou:
