I've never overhauled a 242, but I have a bad one that another member gave me when he bought a good one from me. If you end up needing internal parts, let me know - this box of parts might have what you need.

I'm gonna be busy Friday and Saturday, but if you get in a pinch and wanna bring it by, I could look at it Sunday or Monday.

Thanks Yella, I may call on ya!

Update.... Ok, I pulled a 231 out of the wrecked 98 I have. Pulled it apart checked everything and installed a AA SYE. Put it in along with a TW DS and it works BUT I am not happy with it! I am getting vibes out of the shaft not to mention I have a leak at the tail cone(not enough RTV)!?!? The angle is not too bad but more than what I had with the 242(H&T). To top it all off I am divorcing my wife(moving out of house/shop) and my alternator went out on me while I was in Denver this weekend for Drill!! I had to drive it home on battery only, thanks be to Optima!! When it rains it damn well pours!!:banghead: Sorry there are no pics of the T/C work was in hurry, no time to stop for pics!

Pinion is good, pointing straight at the T/C. I am pushing 8" of lift!?!?

.FWIW,Sorry to hear about the divorce, that's never an easy decision to make.
Thanks!
Yeah, been tryin to hold it together for a while now BUT at some point the towel must be thrown in!! It is goin to be a pain BUT better in the long run!

I hate it when things go that way and you run into extra work. Story of my life
FYI
A slip yoke eliminator is not necessary to run a cv and eliminate driveline vibes. You can install the cv on any driveshaft.

Whoa hold on there brutha.........

Maybe on sports cars, but anything with a moderate to extreme amount of suspension travel has to have solid connections between the power source and the axle pinion - and the driveshaft has to have the slip yoke.

'Raptor is running around 8" of lift.......

Without a driveshaft that can compensate for the distances that change between the axle and the t-case - you're either gonna flex down and drop the drive shaft on the trail, or flex up and press the driveshaft into the t-case and destroy it.

'Raptor,

The t-case leak...... coming from around the SYE yoke and seal? Or from where the AA tail cone bolts to the case?

Check to ensure you have the u-joint caps firmly seated into the yokes - there should be little tabs on each ear of the yokes to hold the caps in place.

Then also check to see if you have any in/out or up/down play in the rear axle pinion yoke.

Sure seems like having done the 231 AA SYE, and a TW shaft, you shouldn't have ANY issues.

Lost in translation: The drive shaft. Did you ditch the first shaft and get a NEW Tom Woods to go with the AA SYE or are you using the same drive shaft that you had rebuilt? If it's the same shaft, take it back and have them check the CV and re-balance it.

The leak is from the tail cone that bolts to the case, not enough RTV (my fault, was in a hurry). The TW shaft(brand new) came with the AA SYE and that is what I installed on the 231 from my wrecked 98 that is now on the heep. The other shaft that I rebuilt is a flange type for the H&T that was on the used 242 that I bought, mistake as that case was bad!!! Money down the crapper!! I now have 2-242 T/C's, the original and the bad used one. My plan is to transplant the H&T from the bad case to the known good original case!! Hopefully the main shaft is still good in the bad case which is producing a grinding/vibe noise!! Now due to the divorce in progress I have begun the moving process (pain in the ***) and had to delay my build a bit longer. My heep looks funny with 7.5 in the rear and 4.5 in the front:eyes:  , I really need to finish the BDS install!!!!! Oh yeah, a new alt for the heep cost $135!!!! I have a ton of stuff pending for the heep.......ViAir onboard system, Taurus fan, CB, Painless power block, HP Dana 30 w/ 30 sp cromo's, ARB and TnT truss all of which sits in the shop! Man I really need some stress free quality time with the heep!! I will keep yall posted as to my progress and maybe some more pics if I remember....

Another update....Ok, I just finished swapping main shafts on the 242's!! All looked good with the main on the bad case so I went ahead and swapped the main and H&T over to the known good case!! Planning on finishing with the longarm Tuesday!!

Another update...........Ok, almost finished, 242 is back in and come to find out the damn DS I put new u-joints in($114 later) has a bad pivit(fawked CV):smsoap:.....went ahead and ordered a TW for the H&T(should be here Monday)!!! Longarm is in but had to modify the retaining plates and make new crush sleeves thanks to the TnT stiffnerz!! Now I will have to modify my Rocklizard sliders to fit the new set up(cut and weld)!! Yeah!!!! almost there!!!!! Holy Cross on the 24th!!!!!! Breakin the shit in!!:yelclap::clap::yelclap::clap: Oh, I will get some updated pics shortly!! Sorry, I know yall like pics, I just get to damn busy wrenchin I forget to stop and shoot a few......

just a quick ? for ya....
whats the benefit of the tom woods DS?...

The benefit is this.....Tom Woods makes some of the best driveshafts around and after sourcing local for a DS I actually got it cheaper through Tom Woods!! :yelclap: I been doin all this shit myself no help here......:repair::smoker:

Man I didn't know you where having so many problems. I have 2 alternators in the garage. One should be a 136 amp if you want it. Do you think you are going to make Holy Cross?

Man I am hopin to make Holy Cross!!! I should but it is goin to be close! Will the 136 amp just bolt in or is there some mods necessary? This has been a frustrating upgade, many unforseen issues!! I am on the 3ed transfercase now! Finally pinpointed my drivline issue, it was a bad pivit in the CV. Got a custom Tom Woods comming Monday!! The BDS is in finally and I really love it! We will see how it works on the Cross!!

Its going to take a bit of grinding but it can be put in, in less than an hour. My 136 amp I have is a spare, it works but I think a bearing is going out in it. It makes a bit of noise if I remeber right. I've had it on the shelf for 3 or 4 years. Your welcome to it though.
