Banks Torque Tubes

i have had 6 broken banks headers, three different designs. the most recent one however i added stage 8 locking header bolts, and havent had a problem for the last year. i guess my header bolts were geting lose and causing the header to crack

i run a banks on my jeep and a borla on my soon to be ex wifes jeep. both are expensive both crack like its no bodys business and both ive welded up. the borla hangs down and is a DS hazard tho

Not that it's going to change the opinions of most of the people here, but one of my lifelong best friends is an engineer at banks, so i periodically get an inside line on whats going on there..

the older banks torque tube was engineered for performance and durability was somewhat overlooked.. and they know it. ;)

it was a recent project to re-engineer the product with durability in specific mind - i can't say when the updated header will start hitting the publics hands (it may have already, i'm not *that* in the loop) but its one of those things you shouldnt let hold you back.. in theory at least, the days of having to replace your header 6 or 7 times should be over.

that said, i run a borla header. ;)

Ultimate stock XJ "exhaust" system:

1. Brown Dog motor mounts.

2. New transmission mount.

3. APN header: http://www.ineedparts.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=15343

4. Flex tube installed in the downpipe where it crosses from left to right: http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CXR&Product_Code=FLEXPIPE-250x8

If you don't maintain your engine and transmission mounts you will crack any header. You are likely to crack any header regardless of the condition of the engine and transmission mounts, but with good mounts and the flextube you are less likely to crack.

Taking this path. Just ordered the mounts and flex-piping.

So can't you just ask your buddy when are they going to hit the shelves?

Other than thicker tubes and better welds I wonder what they could do to improve durability?
