Hi everyone, I have been gone for awhile...got divorced...the dust has settled and I am ready to move on. With that said I need some upgrades for the jeep. Axles,gears, locker. And rear bumper with tire carrier.

I currently have a 97 four door with 6.5" of lift. I want to get bigger axles, with gears and lockers. I will want to run 35's. I have some available cash to throw into the jeep and no wife to say no!!!!

I need some assistance in deciding what type of axles to go with. Because of the divorce I now live in an apartment and will require a place to install and help with that as well. I will be more than happy to bring plenty of beer and food.

I have about $5k I can spend...but if I can get it done for cheaper than all the better. I know you guys love spending other peoples money...so lets hear what you have to say.

Hell, I'll sell ya a whole, running '88 G. Waggy with front and rear Dana 44's for $1k.

Kidding!!! (unless you want the Waggy, then PM me...)

But anyway, I see 44's on CL all the time for like $275.

When I see another set I'll PM ya if you haven't found what you're looking for before then.

Oh yeah, what are you looking for? Doesn't Aaron have a built 30 and 8.8 for sale right now??
 
Have ya seen JR's rig lately?? (the "Important" thread) I've seen him run and it's very capable. I think that he's got 44's (see the "Teaser Pics" thread).

I'm thinkin' of full length D60's for Jennifer's '91 (running 35's). The girl likes rocks and has a lead foot....not to mention that articulation is sexy!

There's a thread on here about axle choices...it's pretty in depth.

I've been told that a well-built D30 will deal with the 35's but isn't the best choice...and since you already said you don't want a 30, we can move on from that. D44's seem to be the next obvious choice.
 
I was thinking 60's, I know its a bit over kill for 35's but, if I decided to go bigger down the road, I would be good to go. Lucky for me my jeep is just a toy, I only drive it on the weekends. So not worried about DD issues at all.
 
The new JK 44's would be really tempting if I had $5k to burn, however, I have seen several instances of the new JK 44 front axle housing breaking. That would kind of make me worry. The 60's for $1500 would definately be the most bang for your buck.
 
I don't want to burn through the 5k...more like smolder through it...lol...I want to get as much as I can for the jeep. I need tires as well.

I also will need a place to do all the work and some help...but my goal is to buy everything and have ready to install all at once.
 
I would do the 60's that brandon brought up for $1500.00, and a nice set of 35's for around $1000.00 or $1200-1500 if you need new wheels as well. Then find some bracketry for the new axles, and possibly some driveshaft mods get everything tied up. I would think you could do all that, and still have a little left over. Depending on how much of it you could do yourself, or with a nice friend who will help.
