Hi, i am a new member here, and glad to be one, this site seems to offer a LOT of very good technical info for the xj owner. With that said, i just ordered my 8 inch long arm clayton lift for my 99 xj, and am gonna run 35 inch truxus tires. I would like to know what esle i will soon have to upgrade as far as axles and steering? I would like to be able to drive the jeep for a few months with out upgrading a lot, just so i can get some more cash saved up. What would your recommendations be for me?

i forgot to mention that it is a 99 with the 8.25, and i am getting the sye and new d shaft with the kit.

yeah i know the millage will be bad. Should i even waste my time regearing those pos axles anyways, or should i just buy a 44/9" and gear and lock them?

Depends on how you drive.
You deffinately want to regear before putting the 35's on.

you can get away with just regearing. the D30 and the 8.25" will stand up to 35's.

just be easy on the gas.

What about steering and braking with the 35's on the D30? Any decent upgrades without dumping a lot of cash on the 30?

I will be on 35's soon too so I was just wondering....and yes new gears are going in.

I'm running the setup you want, except for 2" less lift, and an 8.8 rear. 8" is waaaayyyyy too much lift for 35's. 4.56's gears are a minimum for 35's. I'm running 4.88's and still wish for lower gears on the trail. Perfect for the road though. I've got disk brakes on all four. Braking is okay. Not great. Not really even good. But good enough for now. I can lock them on at will. Better beef up the steering. Drop pitman and Currie for a bolton kit.

will it move for like a month or so without gears, i would like to drive it some before gears, just not use o/d in the aw4, i know i wont have any power but oh well. I am getting a new adjustable trac bar and drop pitman arm with the kit. been looking at posion spyder customs hd steering setup for the upgrade. I just put new rotors on the front and i will look into that rear disc setup. 8 inches too much for 35's????????? Claytons xj is on 8 inches and 33's................ I think that is a bit much fender gap, but i dont think 8 and 35's is that bad, espeically once i add the winch bumper, winch, rear bumper, tire carrier, sliders, and all that other bullshat to it. What do you guys think??

It's a personal thing.

Stay lower to keep the center of gravity down, trim the fenders for tire fitment.

My choice.

i have no care in the world about body damage, as long as the glass stays in it, and the doors still close, right now my rockers are screwed, the doors are screwed, and i could care less about cutting meaning less metal, but when i talked to clayton he seemed to think 8 and 35's would be about the right setup after i added all that extra weight, and yeah i do want to keep my cot closer to earth, but i would also like to have the room to flex my jeep to its potential

do you like using your windsheild washer fluid?

because that is the trimming limit on the 97+ XJ's

i do like it, and i looked at that the other day, i may be mistaken, but do you have to relocate that bottle to run the arb snorkel, cause i plan to do that soon as well, if so i will just do that
