Axle and steering questions???

been looking at posion spyder customs hd steering setup for the upgrade.

The Poison Spyder steering setup does not look like an actual upgrade. It looks like crappy stock-style steering.

Find something that decreases the drag link angle, and you'll be upgrading.

besides the oro kit who makes something like that. Thats the only company i have seen that acutally changes the angles, and damn thats a lot of money.

I guess that isn't a given.

Close enough?
Phil - is that a Tera knuckle and if so, would you do it the same way again? Also, any front brake upgrades?

you're planning on going to 8" AND doing a snorkel?? buddy, let me save you some future heartache... unless you're only wheeling at the mall, don't waste your money. if you're going through water THAT deep - well, you just shouldn't be.

as for 8" and 35's - sure! here's 8" and 36's. wheels AWESOME. doesn't feel "tippy" at all. the wide tires help...

Teraflex
Phat Jeeps
and for the skilled:
WJ Knuckle (1 or 2)
Any info on just one WJ knuckle? I'am assuming pass side. I thought with the brake roter differences you had to do 2 or none.........

that jeep is awesome, thats what i want mine similar too, as for mall wheeling, my is so beat up for a 99 i would get laughed at. Will look into the steering upgrades you mentioned. The reason i want a snorkle is i have already drown my motor out twice, and it is a real pita, so..........

I just installed a WJ brake conversion on a XJ. It takes care of both braking problems and steering problems. There is alot involved if you do it right or you can just hack it together like most do and take your chances. There is machining envolved with the hubs, hub spacers, and brake rotors, along with building your own Tie Rod, Drag link, and moving your track bar to above the axle. But when your done a XJ with 35" tires stops like it was stock. If you have any questions PM me.

see i dont have the tools to fabricate the hubs and such. Is there a write up or anything on how to do this, any more info on it at all??

if you want a good steering setup, and aren't comfortable with a lot of machining (i'm sure not...), look into off road only's "u-turn" steering. it is BEEFY, and just bolts right on. spendy though...

i like the oro kit, but i was hoping there was a cheaper solution to the steering problems.
There's this guy http://jb4x4.com/products.htm which is a cheaper alternative to a Tera knuckle. Just something I had bookmarked, I don't know anything about this product's real world use.

With this or the Tera knuckle, you'll still have to get or fab tie-rod, drag link and track bar stuff.

honestly, if you're lifting to 8", fixing your steering is not likely to be really "cheap."

or, just run your stock stuff until it breaks (like me...), or until it drives you nuts, then replace it. i'd recommend NOT trying to fix it as inexpensively as possible. it IS your steering, after all...

what are some of the problems i will have with stock steering, i am guessing a lot of bumpster, but what else?? I know, every thing cost a lot of money, i just didnt really want to drop 5g's on getting my jeep in the air safley for a few months, will the oro kit work on a 44 when i go to that axle in a few months??

no, the ORO kit won't directly attach to a 44. i don't think...

honestly, stock steering works pretty well! it feels, well, like stock! it is just more likely to break/bend/fail. i ran mine several times before my drag link went tits up.

yeah i figured it wouldnt be too bad for a little while if i wheel her easy. I am not looking to beat the hell out of this truck till i get the proper compontents under it to do so, seems to save more money and time not giving it hell while its not strong enough to take it. What would you guys do? Would you go with the wj steering setup or just order the oro kit? I dont plan on getting my front 44 till xmas so its gonna be a little bit of time.
