I have 89 cherokee and the other day my transmission was shifting fine the let sit from 1-9 and now the transmission is stuck in 3rd gear I replaced the solenoids it didnt fix it anyone offer advice

if you lose the ground on the solenoids I think it defaults to 3rd gear. Or mine did when I didn't install my RAD shifter correctly. I think it was a bad ground.

Check the fuse for the trans

The fuse under dash is good could I be not getting power to the tcu

It should shift manually with the TCU unplugged, or with the fuse out.

With no power to the solenoids you should get 1,3,4 when moving the floor shifter. If it is always in 3rd when in the drive position then it sounds like that solenoid circuit is allowing pressure to hold it in 3rd. 3rd gear is the #2/B solenoid ON by itself and the other shift solenoid not working.
