AW4/Driveline thump when starting or stopping

My vote is spring wrap. When you brake, the axle rotates top forward, spreading the leaves ahead of the axle. Let off the brake, or accelerate, axle snaps back, with a nice deep clunk. I fixed mine with spring straps-originals were rusted off. Got 'em at NAPA, weren't much money. I will add that I need new springs, Got it 3 years ago with 100k on it, was already making noise. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to how or when these things wear out. My '92, 202k miles, no clunks or bangs, springs still shaped correctly.
