Average Gas Mileage for 99 XJ?

Throw away the K&N. It's letting 45x the dirt into your engine that a paper would.

I would think with a properly oiled K&N filter, it will be fine.

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out. I think I might toss on a new after cat exhaust as well.

Havent done plug/wires yet. Its raining pretty bad today. I'll get around to moving the Jeep in the garage eventually.

Also going to pick up a distributor cap and rotor and put that on as well.

Okay someone give me some tips here....

Ive changed plugs and wires before, but holy hell this is a PITA. After 45 minutes of work all I have to show for it is the first plug wire removed from the Distrubutor...

I cant get any of these boots to budge an inch. I suppose I should go pick up a boot puller, see if it gets any better...

Grab some pliers(needle nose, channel lock, lineman) and just yank them off. You're replacing them anyways, so it doesnt matter if you destroy them.

When going back together, use dielectric grease on both the cap end and the spark plug end.

Yeah... yank on them like you mean it. You probably should be replacing the cap and rotor too, I'm not even going to bother unplugging mine next time (now that I have 1-5-3-6-2-4 memorized) just unscrew the cap and leave the wires on it.

Memo to self: right tool makes the job SO much easier.

Bought a boot puller and its cake!

Im replacing rotor and cap today as well. Been using anti seize and dielectric grease as well

Most of the plugs look quite bad, and are gapped around 0.050...way out of spec. They all have a pretty heavy smell of gas as well, and Im wondering if this is a sign the upstream O2 sensor is out and running the engine rich? or I guess it could just be the gaps being so far out.
