Autopals + HIDs = Trouble aiming.

I've had this setup for a few months, and I have yet to be able to get them aimed correctly. For some reason the passenger side headlight wants to throw all of the light WAY over to the right and way up into the air. The drivers side beam seems great and has an even distribution. here's some pictures to show you.

See how the light takes off to the right leaving me with a dark area in the center ? I've tried turning them in more, but it doesn't really help.

and another one. See how i'm lighting up the trees and whatnot.

Here they are against a door so you can see the pattern. Now i've adjusted them since then, but see how the pattern isn't even ?

Here the autopals are with halogens, they are nice and even.

I wouldn't have recommended them for HIDs... I would have recommend Cibies if you must do HID in a halogen housing. Cibies have the best beam pattern that I have seen and a sharp cut off.

Another option is that the kit you got is just not up to par and the bulbs are positioned incorrectly.

It doesn't matter whether you use hellas, cibies, or autopals... the end result will still be a blurry cut-off regardless. Simply put, halogen housings were never meant for HIDs. The only way you can hedge your bet is to use an oem/take-out HID kit installed using a d1s/h4 adapter shield... it's the closest thing to a projector retro without spending the extra cash.

Back to topic. I have no idea why you're getting that odd blind-spot. Something has to be defective. If your headlights are under warranty than request a replacement. If the problem persists, you have a defective bulb.

Why do you say defective bulb? I would put my money on the housing.

Try swapping the bulbs into the opposite housings, see if the problem persists.

I have no idea what type of HID kit he's using. It could be a cheap Chinese knock-off with a faulty shield, but I agree with your idea - swapping bulbs is the quickest way to figure out his problem. It's so simple, I'm embarrassed I didn't mention it :(

Because he said they were fine with the halogens. I'll take your money now...

You'd be surprised the inconsistencies you'll find in aftermarket HID kits. I purchased two H3C 5000k aftermarket kits not too long ago. I had one bulb explode in my housing; when I grabbed a bulb from the other kit, it turned out to be 8000k. I was sent a pair of replacement 5000k bulbs; they turned out to be ~4000k. Even the pricey pair of D1S ultinons I purchased later for my headlights turned out to have faulty bases.

Bottom line, aftermarket HID kits are truly hit or miss.

He has the ones from BajaHID.com I believe.

Those Baja HIDs look no different than any other HID kit I've seen on ebay.
It doesn't matter who you buy from.... aftermarket HIDs have a fair defect rate.

I would take chebear's advice - swap the passenger's side bulb into the driver's side housing. That will tell you, once and for all, if that bulb's defective. If it's the bulb than request a new one from Baja.

x2. Did you get the high and low kit or just the low?

thats a good deal on those, i know a guy that has a set in his car and he loves them, i would get the autopals with the clear lense cause those lenses with the lines in them just scatter the light and blind everyone

The kit I bought also has a lifetime warranty against defects. As well as I don't have to shit it to Japan to get my replacement. I think it's just the housings now to be honest, the passenger side HID bulb blew a few days ago, and I've been running around with just halogen bulbs and it's doing the same thing. Can anyone recommend another H4 housing other than the autopal ? oh and it needs to be E code, not DOT.

Shit it to Japan?

Did you swap the bulbs before the bulb blew? It sounds like you have defective autopals, and a defective HID kit. Contact the place that sold you those housings - ask about their warranty. Contact the place that sold you that HID kit - request a replacement bulb.
