aussie vs powertrax no slip

Im thinking of getting a front locker in my d30. Which of these two lockers would give me the smoothest action. It is my DD but I want some more traction on the trails. Which of these would be the best in the snow? Ive always heard that lunchboxes suck in the snow. I live in Colorado and we have plenty of snow. I need something that will still be safe in the snow.

I recently installed an Aussie in the front of my 2000 and I can't say enough great things about it. The install went without a hitch, for once, and the performance is great. I haven't had any snow to test it but it sure as hell climbs well. It's quiet until you make a really tight turn into a parking spot, where a faint click is heard. I'd say go for it. Www.northridge4x4.com has it for $249 shipped.

Why did you take out te entiore front carrier fo the install canman? I thought the whole premise to this design was so you didnt have to? Should I just get an aussie and put it in the back instead?

Functionally the Aussie and No-Slip are pretty much identicle. The aussie seems a little better constructed, and a lot cheaper.

It was easier to get everything in, due to the ring gear thickness of the 4.56 gears, IMO. With stock gears, leaving it in might be easier.

It all depends where you want to put a locker.

Aussies are great lockers! I run 85-140 in the front and rear and I can bearly hear them click in a tight turn.

Well I dont think many have run the powertrax NO-SLIP (not the LOCK-RIGHT) due to the 100-200$ cost increase and thier opinions or comparisions are not with the NO-SLIP.

The Aussie and No-Slip are similar as a apple and orange are. They are both round about the same size, both are eatible, etc..

But the No-slip, now just noted on thier site as the Traction System, is very different then the aussie. Both give locker results but how they do that and how they react are similier only, not the same.

In stead of retyping what the Traction System really is or does, I will jsut give the link so you all can read for your selves..

But one easy to see difference is that the powertrax has sycro's to ensure smoother engagement and there for less "Bang" and results are less stress shock to the drivetrain! Huge improvment in design IMO..

I am not saying that the Aussie isnt a Nice locker! In fact it gets great reviews all day long. But it is not a powertrax traction system either. IMO the powertrax traction system is slightly better. But 100-200$ more better? Prolly not. Just step up to a full detroit at that point and redo the gears and setup.

I really like my Powertrax NO-slip and it gets tested out quite often. As for the Aussie, I dont know, I have never ran one.

I can say though, that we had a few inches of snow here 2 weeks ago and just for fun I decided to drive my jeep to work in 4wd. I have a 242 so I ran it in "full-time". I drove to the office at 45mph and it was only slightly different than when it was stock. Oh, and I have the PT No-Slip Ft/Rr w/ 4.56's

But I dont know if that matters or not just thought I would share. I also paid $355.00 shipped for my No-Slips so it wasn't like stepping up to a full case detroit... AND I would never do that on a D30 up front w/ ujoints, etc. They tend to explode even if you sling a cap off...

EDIT. They are so road frendly my wife drives the jeep and doesnt even know they are in there.

Go Aussie no "active spacer" to break like the no-slip.

I'm still prayin for the day aussie makes a locker for the 8.25. One day.........:(

well even though its space age, those that dont have the ability to install a no slip still seem to somehow "break" the syncro ring. I have installed 4 total and my buddy 2 in his rig and then a few others that I know pretty well and are competent at mechanics, and never once broke a ring installing nor ever on the trail. For what its worth....

I've used the No-Slip and the LockRight but not the Aussie. The No-Slip has far better road manners then the LockRight IMO. Comparing the No-Slip is kinda unfair due to the previously mentioned price difference of $200 or so. The No-Slip does come with a "SPACE AGE ZYTANIUM" cross shaft though, not a $200 piece but a nice addin.

I would have gone with the Aussie locker but after waiting over a year I finally got tired and ordered the No-Slip for my D60.

I too have never had a problem with the Syncro rings in the No-Slips.
