Attention experts! engine swap idea...cause I'm young and nuts.

1. Garages around the world are full of engine swap projects like this..... Then they eventually get sold "in pieces" "never got the time to finish" "all parts in boxes ready for assemly" etc.
2. Build what fits. Use your time as efficently as possible. Sell that Lexus for every bit you can get out of it and use the money as wisely as possible on your real project.

3. Every V8 dropped in a unibody car I have ever seen had doors that didn't close and alignment problems. You HAVE to tie the frame sections together and cross brace everything to make it work. In other words add weight... Or you can do what most guys do: build it, beat it, sell it to someone who doesn't know any better.

You bring up some good points, Metal Thrasher. I'll do my best to keep a perceptible line between feasibility and imagination. I wanted to reinforce the body anyways...even with my mostly stock XJ I probably warped the body on one or two of my more hairbrained stunts.

(dunes,mud,sandroads,etc=disaster. rinse, repeat)

But I'd rather not become one of the jerks who sells a good-looking piece of garbage to the kid who just got his license, so either I build it right or resort to option a, parting it out. Like I said, I'm taking all the tips you guys are willing to part with.

just to clear one thing up the jeep is about 500 to 600 hundred pounds lighter than the lexus
also do you realize how much this would all cost and how much fab work would have to be done, how are you going to do something like this on a budget

So lets say I mate the engine with an acceptible transmission that will mate up with an acceptible transfer case. that alone could prove interesting but I'll bet all it'd really take is looking at the import SUvs and crossreferencing my engine for known engine swaps. I've seen it dropped in a variety of cars built for high speed...generally someone with the right application will try something stupid, (like this) and from here I can manage to figure our wiring, computer package issues, timing, new motor and tranny mounts. What else? I'll tell you whether I can hack it or not. Don't take this as me talking trash, I'm encouraging finding the flaws in my plan.

YOUR WAY= you need a tranny, you need a t-case that will mate up, you will need new drive lines and you will need to figure out and fab up the eng and tranny mounts......Duel ext?????
Let alone the electrical night mare!!!!!!!!!

MY WAY= Buy or build a stroker ($1500-$2500).......Install.....Done!

You say that you want to SC the lex eng, and it already has 10.00:1:shocked:
If your luck, you will push the head gasket out the side, when you press that skinny peddle to long!:explosion now no lex, no $$$$$ sell the lex!

For an extra $600 for custom piston in your stroker you can have the perfect deck hight, compression ratio and live a long long time with a SC on it!!!

Now a SC stoker will require stuff like a better radiator,Cooling fans exc......but so would the lex eng.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a lex(Toyota) rice rocket hater. i think they make a well designed, thought out product.......the stroker will just work better.........

I dont think you could categorize this as rice....

THIS is rice...

Search on here for the guy who has done the swap. I believe it was a similar age Lexus V8 from an auto (it used the Toyota/Lexus version of the AW4) and he mated it to the Jeep AW4 and transfer-case (231 I think).

HAY BBeach!!!!!

:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :worship:

Ya I thing that the 2nt one is........... Rice w/ all the Thanks Giving topings.:D
looks like fun.....YOURS?.................

Flash.

You know the Saturn V rocket put out 150 million horsepower. I'm going for that in my XJ. :laugh3:

J/K I would like to see that lexus v8 swap though. Our aw4 trannies are made by toyota, correct?

yep, a wealth of knowledge in that thread...right now I'm looking to see waht other applications this engine has been used in, with what tranny and T/C.

=You're Starting with the Wrong Engine=

You're starting with the wrong Lexus / Toyota Engine:

The 1 UZ FE rods are junk - as are most all the
Toyota / Lexus engines.

Plan on a set of MANLEY
con rods and some Forged Pistons - like CP or
Venolia - with a 'Turbo' ring paak.

The crank of the 1 UZ FE is 3.25" - same stroke
as NASCAR - good for 8,500 RPM - .

Problem being - you have to spin the hell out of
the Blown Uzzie to make power - and you want Torque
not RPM.

You can only stroke a Forged crank .25".

Bore is ? You can't 'bore out' the 1 UZ.

The Toyota engine you want - outside of the NEW
5.7 'Killah' - which has a 4.00" stroke / 3.70" - 94mm bore
and Alum. Block / Heads - Is :

The engine that TOYOTA used in their Formula 1 cars:

=Toyota Tundra 2 UZ FE=

2 UZ Iron block - can take tons of TURBOCHARGING -
2 UZ Alum. 4 cam heads - that FLOW WAY much better than the
1 UZ FE in ANY form.

The 2 UZ engine IS the Lex/Toy engine for FI > forced induction.

The 1 UZ in the know - are hanging 2 UZ FE heads on their
shortblocks - and secretly wishing they didn't have their monies
tied up in a 1 UZ block.

2 UZ Crankshaft is 3.33" Forged unit - add to that a .25" stroke job
and you're 3.58" in the Torque game - bore is 91mm.

Just hone the cylinders - do not bore it out.

Yes - the engine will take 7,500 RPM all day long - their
oiling system is A-1.

Forget belt drive Superchargers - they heat soak the engines -
and the Harmonics they drive into the crank kill off your bearings.

The 4 cam LINCOLN Navigator guys were losing bearings and having
their crank mounted 'cryo' oil pumps EXPLODING due to the harmonics.

For a cure - they went to an external pump with wet sump.

Yeah.......... blah blower in AU... ya da ...... woo-hoo...... bad ideas still run - besides..........

Run a single Turbo with a 'Dial - a - Boost' -> 9 to 1 Forged Pistons &
you'll have a nice throttle response around town - instead of having the engine 'BLOWN' and *TWEAKY* on your way to 7-11.

BLOWERS and TURBOS LOVE GASOLINE - lots of it when in use - so a
'variable boost' situation is preferable.

Most of the Lextreme builders run Turbos - or are switching to Turbos.

check with Jamie for a nice 'Torque' Turbo @:

http://mjmturbo.com/

AND....................

by going with the 2 UZ FE , you can get the 4WD Trans. attached by the Factory!

- TOYOTA TUNDRA -
2 UZ FE

Keep your Lexi intact as a back up parts chaser
and enjoy the beauty of 'Quad Cams' ....'year-round' !.

Check the car Auctions for a wrecked Tundra -
the usual way to install these is by obtaining a
'half cut' - the front half containing the wire
harness / ECM etc. - big pita wire job - .

I have a .pdf of the wire
diagram - I downloaded it from a builder
who did the swap - so should you use
a Toyota engine / Trans.- eMail me.

For the money - can't , since now I'm bed to chair.......[whine],

I would purchase a '01 to 2004 LINCOLN Navigator NVH
6 bolt main block -
DOHC 5.4 'NAVI' engine -

install MANLEY rods / Venolia Forged
Pistons - run an external oil pump with the wet sump,
a rack of motorcycle valve springs / RACING mc locks / keepers
and run a TURBOCHARGER on top.

STOCK 5.4 crank dampner - not - a 4.6 item.

ARP stud the mains / heads.

Bore is 3.55"
Stroke is 4.17"
330cu.in. 'Hot Rod Lincoln'

Engine will spin 9K RPM if you choose -

the 'sound' is straight 'TwIliGHt zONe'

HP / Torque is 800+ with 'boost'

310HP stock - which is plenty really once you
check the TORQUE this thing throws out -

Fully dressed engine weight is 660lbs.

My AMC 360 shipping weight is 740!

Buying gaskets and seals 'n such is
easily half $ you'd pay for Toyota parts.

Navi 5.4 are Chain drive cams - like the NEW
Toyota 5.7.

Tundra 4.7 are 'Belt Drive' and interference
valves > read< one mistake on overdue belt
change and good bye investment.

Tundra 4.7 is a 4 bolt main block - still good
to 1,200 HP ~! but...... a 'Navi' is a 6 bolt main block.

The NEW 2006 Navigator 6spd. 4wd trans. is
a ZF 6hp26 item - nothing but rave reviews
from users > Maserati / BMW / Jaguar / Lambo etc.

and - you can pick up a 'Navi' for HALF the $$ of a Tundra -
like.......maybe $1,200.00 ?

NEW 6spd. 4wd trannies dial in just around $1-1.2K off www.car-parts.com

'01 - '04 'Navi' heads are a cross between the HUGE intake ports
of the 'Navi' and the '03 / '04 COBRA supercharged exhaust ports -
".....together at Last.....!..."

Just a stock 'Navi' and 6spd 4wd trans. would be under $2,400.00
for a DOHC 5.4 with a 4.17 stroke ?

Oh@~~! failed to mention:

the Engine ECM is 'seperate' and hangs on the Firewall
INSIDE the engine compartment > you get it ALL -
Engine / Harness / ECM in one neat package from the seller.

Engine is wide - 32" at the rocker boxes edges - but manageable.

Here's your 'Homework' :

http://www.corral.net/forums/

Go there - read the SVT/DOHC and 5.4 threads.

If you've enjoyed this post > I'm in need of a healthy
2 WD AX-15 with bell housing for my dream -
something 'plug and play' - 'instant gratif' -

it's 'Sporting' a leak'd 998 - currently - not operable.

I am -
in the weeds as most - totally Appreciated mate ~!
