My opinion of "Carnage": If you value your bumpers, lower rockers behind the rear wheels and your lower door skins - you have no business being there. Additionally, if you don't have good rocker sliders you're just asking for big damage. A rear locker is a must.

As far as lift goes, it all depends upon how much body damage you're willing to risk. A rig with 3" lift, 31's and a locker could make it through - but would get banged up and strapped frequently. Ideal set up would be 6", 33's with selectable front locker and lots of armor. I'm at 8", Detroits front and rear, 35's and 1/4" steel armor parts all over - and I still managed to smash my left rear lower rocker and bash my driver's lower door skin.
Well.....I did Carnage with a group from ILJ last summer with my 2" XJ with open axles and 30s, and did fine the entire trip until I was chasing the group and stayed on the gas a little harder than I should have. Total damage for me that day equaled one slightly bent rocker under the rear driver-side door. That was my incentive to put some step-rails on the Jeep though.

I have heard that it changed over the winter and don't know if that's better or worse. As for the brassy ground, although I'm an ardent supporter of the Second Amendment I felt very nervous driving past a bunch of drunk yahoos with weapons...

Would love to go, but I'm too broke to make it to an appointment I had for Moab this weekend; Boulder's out of my budget as well.

OOPS-
:bawl: I've been so bent about my tranny that I forgot to check the forum....it's still broke and they'r gonna tear it down and rebuild it again. :smsoap: Supposed to be ready next week, :wow: heard that 3 times now.
Anyway, any of the mentioned trails sounds good and would have worked for me. Glad those who wanted to go got together for a run. Have fun tomorrow and let us know how it goes.:photo: I heard snow mixed with rain was forcast for tonight in the foothills, it's probably gonna be messy up there.
I'm up for whatever anyone wants to do as soon as my xj is ready. I'd go with ya tomorrow in my Trooper, but mud is not it's best medium.

I would love to go but not tell I get my rockrails put back on. I've seen a stock xj make it up past the waterfall area. just to that last big hill with the big ruts up at the top. it was kinda a beater of a rig but he made it. The rockers were abused that day other than that no other damage. So for the stock xj it just depends on how much damage you care about. fun trail and good times.

didn't check back until today....I'm coming down...just down know what the weather has in store. The forest service doesn't say wheather lefthand is closed or not, but if its really muddy we can do a lot of damage to the trail that I'd just as soon not do. we can still drive up there and see whats open and passable though.
