Anyone using the DPG tail gunner 5" leafs?

If you are, did you use an extended shackle in the rear with these leaves, or go with the stock shackle? If you used an after market shackle, which one did you use, and how long is it?

Which springs did you go with in the front to get it level, and what mods have you done to your vehicles bumpers? IE: How much weight is on the front end, and how much weight is on the rear-end. (Winch bumper, tire carrier, ETC...)

How is the ride quality with the DPG Tailgunner rear leaves?

Thanks!

The stock shackle will not help you flex any... it'll probably hurt it. I'd look for a boomerang shackle like RE's.

I also believe JeepinJason is running the tail gunners front and rear...

I have them installed but haven't had them out on the trail yet. I'm using the Rocky Road extended shackle (1.5" lift).

I have Rusty's 4.5" coils in front with a 2" spacer on top. It might sit just a tad high in the rear but I carry a lot of gear on the trail so that is ok for me. Rigid winch bumper on the front. Rigid bumper with tire carrier and 35" BFG on the rear.

I can't comment on ride quality yet because I still need to weld on my lower rear shock mounts. I should have them on by the end of the week.

I am running Dirks front springs and rear leafs. I wanted to try them out so I replaced my RE springs. I have the same amount of lift with either springs. I run ACOS in the front and Teraflex 1.5" shackle in the rear.

DPG springs are a little softer ride and flex fantastic!

To be honest, it is hard to tell the difference between the DPG and the RE on the trail. The DPG are a little softer ride, but that is not a bad thing!

Just so you know, I am running the same shock and everything so the only difference was the springs. I ran the same trails and both brands are highly recommended. I support Dirk and have bought several things from him. He is a great guy and he supports NAXJA!

Good luck!

I run them front and rear. When I first installed the lift, my jeep was way light and the suspension seemed pretty harsh. But I added a pretty heavy rear bumper with tire carrier, along with some armor, and it made a huge difference.

The springs are softer now and handle very well on the street. And they are super flexy in the dirt!

Cool. Thanks for all the info.

I'm going with the 5" DPG tail gunner leafs in the rear with RE 5" shackle (provides 1.5" of lift). Unless someone knows of a better shackle. For the front I will be using the
RE 5.5" coils. Have Rigid's front and rear bumpers, tire carrier, and a winch. Just wanted to get an idea of how it might level out before I installed it.

Thanks again!

The RE 5" shackle is advertised to give 1.25" of lift but in reality it gives less. The RE 6" Boomerang shackle gives 1.5" of lift.

Are the DGP leafs a lot better than the RE leafs? Their coils are priced similar, but I see the DPG leafs are quite bit more expensive than the RE leafs.

For the guys who are running the trail gunner springs, did you get a true 5" out of them??

The DPG leafs use a 7-leaf pack, and the RE uses a 6-leaf pack. I have a set of the DPG 5" leafs in the garage, right next to a set of RE 3.5" leafs. Neither leaf packs have been used yet. The DPG springs only sit 5/8" higher, and are arched just a little more then the RE leafs. The RE 3.5" leafs are for sale.

I have one weekend run on my 5" DPG leafs so far, and I like them a lot. They sit just under 5 inches, but that is with a full cage, spare axles/parts/tire, tools, and an extra 5 gallons of gas. I think they sit a little lower than my old Rusty's 4.5" pack, but the Rusty's springs died from the weight. Like already stated above, they are a 7 leaf pack, but are flexy. They have anti friction pads at the end of each leaf, and have an extra clamp towards the rear, most likely to help fight axle wrap. They're working good for me, no complaints.

Cool, that sounds good.

Ok I am bumping this thread to see if anyone has any upedates or experiences with the trailgunner springs..

So far so good. I'm using them with the RE 5.5 LA kit. Seems level, and the ride is good. Maybe just a tad higher in the front, but I have yet to install my winch.

Cool, Dirk (owner of DPGOffroad) is a good man, I'm sure you will be pleased with those leafs.
