anyone running the taurus fan setup?

I am been playing with the idea of putting in an electric fan setup so I was wondering if anyone here in the SEC is running the Taurus fan. I love the Dirtbound setup but thats too far out of my budget right now. I know I need something that will pull atleast 3000 CFM and the Taurus Fan seems to be able to do that unlike a lot of the fans I have seen.

So like I said anyone down here in the south running this setup? Preferably experience from the lower southern states as I am from GA and well it gets so hot down here in the summer.

i helped a guy put it in his ZJ.. it was a strong 2 speed fan. He had to get a ford relay to go with it. But it tight enough to fit between the radiator and the engine..
There are tons of write ups for it. I think Crown Vics have em too

I have been searching and searching and searching and I think I have bookmarked atleast 8 write-ups so far. My only concern is if I HAVE to lop off the mechanical fan pulley. I really like the late model 14.5" two speed fan that you can mount in the factory mechanical fan shroud. I was wondering how close it is to touching, because if it is close but not bad I think I can massage things to where it is very close but not touching. Wiring won't be a big deal as I am pretty good with electrical. I also want to just find an temp switch with two speeds rather than buy some expensive adjustable box. I heard a switch from a VW has two settings one at 195 and the next at 213 which I like. I don't want the fan always running for power consumption reasons and in these cold winter months I want my Jeep to get up to operating temps as soon as possible to warm up my cold @$$ haha.

But most of all I want to make sure that this fan can keep up in the hot humid southern heat even on a lifted Jeep.

I tried the Taurus fan for my stroker. I'm not sure what the deal is, I suspect maybe the CSF 3-core being too thick (Which I am beginning to think is junk anyway btw), but I lopped off the mech fan pulley and everything else I could to do to get some clearance, and trimmed the shroud down as far as I could, and it was still hopeless. It was a huge bummer... I am just going to get a second stock e-fan now and wire them to a switch, they push a lot of air, and they fit...

Consequently if you want a free trimmed town taurus fan, come and get it!

Did you use the one that can fit in the factory mechanical fan shroud or the giant 18" fan?

Oh and I had a CSF 3 row that did ok the job for about 5 1/2 years until I noticed it would start to run hot sitting still in a drive through line in the summer and then shortly after I noticed a small leak from where the core meets the tank on the passenger side. It made it about another year after that before I HAD to replace it which I chose to go with Champion. I have the 2 row Champion which is a great radiator and the core thickness is 1/16 narrower than the CSF 3 row. I wanted the 3 row Champion but they were out of those at the time and I needed a radiator ASAP. The only thing I have to complain about the Champion 2 row is during the summer it still creeps up over 210 but once the Jeep is moving it comes back down which tells me I just need to make sure to always have lots of air moving across it during the hotter seasons. This is why I want to go to an e-fan setup and the taurus fan seems to move a lot of air.

I'm not sure the difference, I think this one would be the big one. Here's a picture of it:

It's nice that the CSF rad isn't plastic, but it seems like it doesn't hold as much coolant, and it also just doesn't seem like it would transfer heat as well as bare aluminum, I mean, what is it made of? Mostly brass with aluminum fins that are painted black? I'm pretty sure the specific heat of black paint is not as high as that of aluminum so... idk, I think I might be switching to a stocker soon.

Yah thats the bigger fan so that isn't what I am looking for unfortunately.

I think it is a combo of brass and copper. They gave me like $26 for mine at the local scraper which I was surprised that they gave me so much just for a radiator. Check out the Champion one before you go to the stocker because the 2 row and the 3 row both come in cheaper than the CSF from most distributors.

Yah that doesn't help me at all since it is a ZJ. I am concerned about fitment of the later model 14.5" fan and cooling on a Southern XJ. Wiring is up to me and my only question is which cooling sensor I can use to make it fully autonomous. Heard a VW sensor is preset to come on at 195 and again at 213 which I would want just gotta figure out what model that came out of.

But for the purpose of this thread I am mainly looking for info on fitment of the 14.5" fan and use in the southern summer heat.

My experience with the 14.5" fan is on a 5.2 ZJ, but somewhat relevant...

I used a DC controller with the auto on for the AC, and an adjustable thermostat using the directions that Brian (DC Controller guy) provided. I've never had a single problem with it cooling even at the lowest crawling speeds, in fact it might be cooling a bit too good. I probably need to dial up the turn on temp. Even after my engine is fully warmed up, it's a bit cooler than it used to be 10-15 degrees than with the mechanical fan.

I've never seen any writeups using other manufacturers OEM sensors, that would be cheaper than the DC Controller setup.

Don't believe anybody that tells you that a ford starter relay works for the taurus fan.

" I used just a standard 30amp relay for the low and a Ford Starter relay for high. The Ford Starter relay is plenty beefy to handle the initial draw that the high speed takes."

Personal experience says the ford starter will try to burn down your rig.

It's not an easy fit. Since I deleted my AC I moved my radiator forward allowing much more space, you can create a bracket to hold the fan, but it's a little more involved than most would have you believe IMHO. I will be going with the Dirtbound triple fan set-up soon. Not saying the Taurus fan isn't a viable option, but I think the triple fan set-up is much less of a headache, you get everything you need in one package and your done.
