Anyone have welder recommendations- anyone have one for sale?

I find it funny though how guys knock the lil 110 machines without really knowing what they are capable of.

I think you're wrong...

I've been fortunate in my travels to be able to use other peoples equipment of all types - my 110 unit, a Harbor Freigh 110 unit on Means Dry Lake, Phil's 220 Miller, Billy's 220 Miller, Captain Ron's 220 Miller(s) and Lincoln(s).

Based on my expierence, the better the machine (most of the times, this means more $$$ machine) the easier it is to lay down great looking, STRONG welds.

I welded my first front bumper together with my 110 unit, and it broke where the weld didnt penitrate... Phil fixed it and re-welded it for me with a 220 unit - and its now on Harlee's rig.

I know that Dave has both a 110 Hobart machine, and a 220 mig machine at home - and has spent a bunch of time with both.

While I feel like I have a little more expierence welding than some, and am comfortable welding .120 with my 110, some people may not be.

Recovery points, suspension, cages are not things to learn how to weld on... CB brackets, roof racks, skid plates are good first time projects...

What will you say when the 20 year old kid hurts himself or his girlfriend because he was told by you that a 110 is fine to weld everything. Have at least a little responsibility for what you say on a public forum, and try to remember who reads this.

I still don't get why people want so hard to make a point of how great a 110 is?

Read all of my post guys, not just the points you want to argue with. I clearly state that IF you can afford it and you have 220 in your garage then go with a 220 machine. By all means go with the 220! No question it is a better machine for doing most things.

However, for every example you give where a 110 weld failed I ask then; have I and my friends with 110 machines been "just lucky"? I think not. I'm also not saying I'm an expert either. But I know what I know, and that is I'll put my stuff up against whatever the trail can dish out. Say what you want, but the proof is there.

As far as responsibility for someone else using a 110 machine? Come on, is this what we've come too? Because I said it could be done I'm liable? Nice try but eh... no. So following your logic, this board has endorsed going to Moab right? So If some young kid looks at the pics on here and goes out and tries to do the same stuff then what? Naxja is responsible? No way.

Why Letterman are you trying to make a point of how crappy they are? The have their place. So does the torch. But a Plasma cutter is better. You gunna throw away your torch?

Never had a weld fail? Wow, then all I can think is you and your friends don't get it! Come out to JV for goatfest, I am sure the hammers will find a weak weld on your junk.

Never owned a torch, my plasma gets it done!

Lambo doors?

Whatever Letterman. You can't say anything else so you figure you'll say I don't wheel hard enough or it's not a "real Jeep". Is that the tatic you're taking?

I've been wheeling NorCal since 91, welding since 99. Never had a weld fail. Barrett, Con, Fordyce, Dusy, et al. and most of these on 31's. Yea I know, that can't be done either.

Wheeling in the same rig since '91 and you never had a weld fail? Was that in a XJ? :gee:

You are right I can't say anything else, you have won, I am wrong, everyone should just get a 110 welder and never look back.

Good to know your 110 can do this:

Got any shots of Commity on 31's? now that would be cool to see, on 37's I thought it was nasty:

Don't get bugged by me, most here don't listen to me anyway, sometimes threads like this teach us all a lot.

Letterman-

Don't get all butt hurt on me Jesus. I clearly state THREE times that a 220 machine is BETTER. Did you not read where I said that or are you just looking for an argument?

All I'm saying is there is a lot a 110 machine can do, a lot more than people give it credit for. That's it.

Yes, wheelin since 91 and I've never broken anything except lose a few beads here and there. No I don't subsrcibe to the "bigger is better" or the "my tires are bigger so I'm obviously a better wheeler than you" theories either. No I don't have 37's, or even 35's, hell I just recently put on 33's! And you know what, I'm good with that. Works for me!

Dan, I'm with you. Breaking sucks. Especially on Hell Hole on a nice Saturday morning when we could be in camp drinking beer. And it's not something easy like a hub.

I'm not butt hurt, just making a point, and when you make a point a little rude with lots of photos, people read it.

I think 33's are the best tires for almost all Northern California trails, makes them a challenge, and with the smaller tires you break a lot less. I still can't believe you have not broken more then that, are you like Saulo and buy a new rig every other year?

The point I keep going back to is the 110 is not as good as people want to believe, then most people don't know how to weld very well, and this hobby is already extremely dangerous. There are young people that read this and think "I can do that" and they end up thinking they are ok because they read it on the internet. If you don't beleave me just look at Opie. :D

I hope to not see anymore helicopter rides, or hospital runs.

Algebraic! I want a shirt like that, that is great.
