Anyone got snow chains for 33x12.5 r15 tires?

I'm heading up to Tahoe with the family on Thursday and the forecast is snow. I'm not sure if I am taking the minivan or the Cherokee. Anyone in the San Jose area (or somehwat close) have snow chains for 33x12.5 r15 tires that I can borrow for the Cherokee? I don't feel like getting a ticket for not carrying chains.

I remember talking to a CHP officer in Tahoe a while back and as I recall he said if the 80 ever got to the point where it was 4wd and chains they would shut it down. Because of that they never check for chains on a 4wd.

Anyone have a different experience?

ive always been waved on with no chains anytime i take the xj up the 80 or 50 to tahoe when its dumping bad.
if youre on 33 mud tires youll be fine since you can use 4wd

I know all of the above, but I'm just trying to cover my bases. CHP can and will write tickets for failing to have chains even with a 4wd vehicle. I have no intention of using the chains, I just don't want another ticket.

Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles With Snow-Tread Tires

27460. Any passenger vehicle or motor truck having an unladen weight of 6,500 pounds or less and operated and equipped with four-wheel drive and with snow-tread tires on all four drive wheels may be operated upon any portion of a highway without tire traction devices, notwithstanding the fact that the highway is signed for the requirement of those devices and provided that tire traction devices for at least one set of drive wheels are carried in or upon the vehicle. The snow tread tires shall meet the requirements specified in Section 27459 of this code, and such vehicle shall not, when so operated, tow another vehicle except as may be necessary to move a disabled vehicle from the roadway.
No person shall use those tires on four-wheel drive vehicles in place of tire traction devices whenever weather and roadway conditions at the time are such that the stopping, tractive and cornering abilities of the tires are not adequate or whenever the Department of Transportation or local authorities, in their respective jurisdictions, place signs prohibiting their operation unless equipped with tire traction devices.

It was a long time ago (maybe 12-15 years ago) and I don't really remember the situation well. It was either on Hwy 50 or 80 at a stop for chain control. From what I remember the CHP officer seemed aggravated from previous stops that day and just stuck it to me. Hasn't happened since then, maybe I'm just being paranoid.

our work truck was a 84 f-250 diesel 2wd on 31" BFG muds, we would get flagged through all the time on the way back from Reno during a snow storm....they really don't pay attention

I've been to a few places and the CHP just ask if i have them... Just say yes, i mean are you really going to use them? I suggest just air down if you feel unsafe.

if you get in an accident, they can ticket you. but if you air down with 33"s.. your going to do fine. I do it all the time in my xj on 33s and my gf yj on 33s

I have gone over with my 35 km2's. I was never stop or checked.

If you go up to Shaver lake area, you must have chains with you, even with fourwheel drive. There is a big sign on 168, and (I have been told) they will ticket you for no chains even with a fourwheel drive in the summer time. Comming down that 4 lanes on 168 could be very nasty if it was covered in ice.

I have never heard of 50 or 80 needing chains if you have fourwheel drive and snow/mud tires. I was into sking when I was younger and I would go up to Tahoe three times a month, I only had AT's in my old toyota and they never ever asked if I even had chains.

But there is that law in the books and in some snow conditions they can stop you from going on if you have no chains even with fourwheel drive.

Do you remember was the ticket a Moving Violation or just a fix it?
