ANYONE DOING TRJC SAFARI??

Anyone plan on doing the 06 Two Rivers Safari in Pittsfield in mid May? I went last year and had a great time.

For anyone that doesn't know, the Safari and the Blast (later in the year) are runs near RORP but on private land. There are 8 or so different runs from beginner to carnage. Trail leaders are Two Rivers Jeep club members and in many cases the landowners themselves.

It's not cheap, ($115) they limit rigs to 150 but it includes a dinner and breakfast each morning. A huge raffle at the dinner as well. The VFW hall in Pittsfield is the gathering site and the whole town pitches in to help. Really a pretty nice time.

Go to http://www.trjc.com for details.

17k where dos the money go?

just curious

Take a look through their site. They have donated literally thousands of dollars to local charities.

But like Sean said, alot of money is required to keep up the trails, and offset the costs of private land owners, not to mention the unbeliavable amount that the insurance companies charge for these types of events.

The two TRJC events that are open to the public each year, the Safari and the Blast, really are must-experience events. The trails range from "safe for your SRT8 Grand" to "not safe to assume anyone will make it". Seriously - there's something for everyone and everyone is welcome from first-timers in stock rigs to the ultra-built rigs on 44s (a recent change removed the street-registered requirement, although liability insurance is still required).

The excellent wheeling is only one aspect of these events, however. The club is very family-friendly. I take my wife and kids, as do many of the participants. There are events such as a Swamper toss and RTI ramp, etc., on Thursday afternoon. Friday and Saturday include very filling buffet-style meals at breakfast and dinner. With the level of fun had on the trails, these meals are plate-pilers. Sack lunches are available for purchase at the bowling alley behind the VFW. There is usually a Jeep-wash using the local fire department's rigs and manned by one or more high-school groups. The runs are video-taped and shown during the evening's activities. There are lots of great prizes given away at the raffles each night (prizes like a full set of tires, a Warn winch, etc. - Great stuff and lots of it!).

NAXJA has a good representation in the club and at these events (TRL WGN and I are members of TRJC and we likely have others not coming to mind), but it'd be great to see a really large contingent of XJs (and yes, even a few MJs) with NAXJA stickers at the Safari this year to show all those funny-looking short wheelbase Jeeps how to wheel! TRJC is such a good club, with such good wheeling, that we have a large number of members who regularly travel from farther away than Chicago. So come check it out - but check out the website and register SOON, because as stated above the number of rigs is limited to preserve the trails (all of which are on privately-owned land).

Hope to see you there!

And yes, the money raised all goes back into the community to really worthy causes. That's one of the reasons why the community treats us so well - it's a wonderful symbiotic relationship.

THE QUESTION STILL STANDS...

Anyone else heading there?

Well, What Rd will be there. I normally would be, as I am a trail guide on County Line Trail, but work has me tied up this year. I will be at the Blast however! Sponge Bob from here should probably be there as well. Haven't talked to him this year though.
I also will be attending a trail building or two before then. Just can't take vacation during the time of the Safari (that's right, State workers do actually have to work!)

surely some more people can make it. It really is a great time. As has been stated, the money goes to charity. No one involved with the club makes any money. We are all volunteers. Very little money goes towards the trails, as they are privately owned and the use of them is donated to the clubs for events. Many of the land owners are members of the club as well.
For instance, with TRJC, the local school district would no longer have sports for the students, as their budget was cut, but we kicked in something like 9K to keep things going for them!

here is my wife driving at last year's Safari

There was the donation to the local EMS.
Last year was the contribution toward professional restoration of the civil war battle flag with the local soldiers' names sewn on it.
The new roof on the VFW.
The high school sports support TRL WGN mentioned.

Good stuff like that.

What Rd and Trl Wgn have already stated a lot of the facts.
I want to re-emphasize that these events are extremely
appreciated and backed by the entire county.
The donation to the EMS consisted of a brand new
Jaws of Life. Tom and I came across a terrible multi-vehicle
accident not to far from our home. The EMS crew arrived
and their Jaws of Life system failed. At the scene, Tom
made some phone calls for approval to TRJC board members
and assured the local EMS crew that they would be able
to get a new Jaws of Life...TRJC and it's event participants came
through!
The club members have been working very hard to open
up new obstacles and offer new trails for the 2006 Safari
and Blast.
The huge sense of contributions to so many causes gives
every participant a great feeling inside and at the same
time a great feeling to be able to experience some amazing
off-roading only available to the public 2 times a year.
