Any parts good off a Wrangler to be used on an XJ

2001XJ

Guys,

Have a friend that will sell me his 94 wrangler for $700 (116,000 miles) that has a newer complete rear axle (replaced 1 year ago) in it. I was wondering if there were any advantages of buying the wrangler and using it for parts to put in my XJ?

thanks

you didn't mention what year XJ you have, but.....

95 and older wrangler are leaf sprung, so i belive you can swap the rear axle, but i'm not sure on that.

almost everything under the head is also swapable as long as your XJ is 91 or newer.

if you ever look for something to swap front suspension parts, you can use 97 and newer wrangler parts.

The only YJ parts I have are the longer brake lines and the passenger side e-brake cable. Not worth $700 though. :)

If I'm not mistaken, the rear axle would be a Dana 35.

My XJ is a 2001. I already have a Chrysler 8.25 rear which is better than the D35 (I think?).

Yeah, on a 2001 there'd be nothing worth using from a YJ. Rear axle would be inferior not only because it's junk, but because the YJ is sprung under. Would take putting perches on top to use it on your XJ.

Not worth it unless it's got nice wheels/tires. ;)

hell if it runs buy it and drive it

Around here a wrangler like that in good condition is worth more than $700. I would re-sell it for profit. Do something nice for your friend afterwards so he doesn't get envious.

Well, the engine is pretty tired, there is some body damage/rust and the clutch is about to go out....oh yeah, and the top is torn in 2 places (big tears) and the plastic has turned cloudy/yellow. It drives but like I said, it's on it's way out. That's why I considered using it for parts

it doesn't matter, I"ve seen some that don't run at all and sell for $1500, $700 is a steal, I"d buy it and turn it into a pure trail rig.

if it's a 4-banger it has 4.10s

at least the stickshifts do

Yah, the YJ was spring under, as others have mentioned, but you can convert it with good results. The 4 Bangers, as someone else mentioned, have 4.10 gears, but all YJ rears were D35s. The T-Case is a NP231, but with the long tail cone.

For $700, buy the Biatch, fix the motor and body, replace the top and make it your trail rig.
