Any idea what's up for Winterfest?

If you think the midwest crew ONLY wheels the badlands, you are grossly mis-informed.

Fact is I rarely wheel in the Midwest. Usually only Winterfest and maybe one other small get together there per year. I can see why the Badlands would get boring, but like has been mentioned already I'm not there just to wheel. The majority of my wheeling trips have been to UT, CO, TN, and KY. Not a midwest wheeler at all, with the exception of Winterfest.

I hear ya. Iv'e been to Moab more times than I've been to Disney and Moab is 10 hours further away.

Don't get me wrong, I am exited about going to Attica. I just find the number of drama queens in the MWC a bit overwhelming.

JESUS CHRIST!!!!
Can we put this to bed?!
You won. Enjoy it.
Let me explain something here. When I was first asked to put this together we wanted to make this, as our inaugural event as a chapter, a successful event. It wasn't meant to be a MWC event, it was supposed to be a national event, run by a chapter, like NACfest and Fall Fling are. The difference between national and local events (like we have all year long) is that national events are meant to bring people across chapters together to wheel and party. Now to do that I, and others before all the whining, felt we had to step it up a notch. No one from other chapters is going to travel to wheel for 3 days at the Badlands. Sorry.
Yes, Winterfest has a tradition of being a small, MWC only, event.
Yes, the idea was to change that.
People here are making it sound like the only time we get together to wheel and party is at Winterfest and they'd be losing that.
Did it take Winterfest to get together at the Badlands last weekend?
I think, as a chapter, we need to decide what Winterfest is. Is it just a local event or a national one?

...There will be plenty of opportunities to reconsider a chapter run to OK and KY, but te majority has chosen the badlands for winterfest.

We'd better start planning now for other destinations.

First, let's have elections for a planning committee.

Then, we can have a poll on 6 different destinations.

Then, impeachment proceedings against the committee when someones' favorite destination is left out.

Elect another committee...

Try another poll...

Then have a poll on dates, so as not to interfere with anyones other obligations.

Maybe, if we start right now, we can set up one other event for 2006...

Tradition is fine, but it seems to me, as our group is growing, we're already past the point where everybody can spend quality time with everyone else, even between old friends, and newcomers, unless they're willing to push their way in, will tend to feel left out.

So I say let's not be afraid to break with tradition. I think big events should make everyone feel welcome, and having them elsewhere besides the same old place might put old-timers and newcomers on more even footing.
Old friends can and will get together when and where they can, whether it's wheeling the badlands, BBQs, wrenchfests, or whatever. It doesn't have to be called Winterfest to be a good time, or a tradition...

Am I making any sense, or did I just have too much coffee this morning?

Edit: looks like Brad and I are thinking along the same lines, for what that's worth :D

yes, I agree, so lets do that, not take winterfest and make that 'our' nat event, lets make a nat event in KY. It will fly cuz the wheeling is worth the drive, different event tho, we can call it 'hillrodfest'. If the people from all over the country knew how much fun winterfest really is they would make the trip just for the fun factor, not the wheeling, I do.

all the whining,

I don't whine

I can't agree more.

'as a chapter' is the key here, what tiffed me was the comment that this was not a democracy. fuk that.

Hey kid, is it your radio that I have?? PM me with your address and I'll get it back to ya. Thanks again for commin last weekend and loaning me the radio.

So I get to take it up the flag hole as the 'bitter northern midwesterner'.
Nice.
Make another event.
Hell, make 2 a month.
You can even call it Winterfest.
I will still show up in Attica in Feb., and I doubt I will be alone.
If you have a problem with my views or my $.02, feel free to take it up with me personally.
I am not hard to find.
You can all lick the underside of a truck-stop toilet rim.
That......is all.

I have attended only one Winterfest ... that was last years event. Leading up to it, I read the Winterfest thread and enjoyed all the inside jokes and past pictures. I went to Winterfest 2004 and had a great time, especially around the fire listening to all the stories and BS. I understand the tradition of this event ... and those members who do not want this tradition changed.

Change is good, but so is Tradition. To those who feel Winterfest has been somewhat violated by suggesting another site, or by holding it in March, I apologize. As a member of this committee, I accept some of the responsibility for all the confusion.

Hopefully the weather will be miserable, trails more challenging, and the beer cold.

I welcome a Midwest event.
I would do everything in my power to attend it, and even sleep with Okie Terry in the same Mummy bag.
Winterfest is not an 'event'.
If you have been there, then you know.
Thanks for the time.

I am glad we have a committee that no one elected doing it's darndest to destroy a tradition that they know nothing about.
Maybe its a coincidence, but it seems this site turned sour about the time the MWC came into being.
Elections were held by 4 guys drinking in a garage, who had been members of the club for a month or so...Winterfest is being hijacked 12 hours away...and instead of breaking our junk, we now have 482 running jokes that pertain to pies.
Nice group of midwest wheelers we had, once.
Thanks for everything.

So go find someone else to play with if you don't like us anymore!!!

wow ive missed alot since i posted last. i dont care where its held but I plan on having snow and shit on the ground. hence the name "Winterfest". do we ever get alot of snow in march? Feb would be my vote but since I'm not in the commitee it doesn't matter. as long as I get to have the heater on high and when I step outside the truck I start to freeze its all good.

BTW, the reason it was moved to March is that Badlands has closed their campground for winter this year. We had to either move the date to March or have no camping.
I'll be damned if I'm going to let you mess with a Winterfest tradition (campfire ring). :D

Don't ruin his fun. He was having to much fun complaining about somebody messing up his club!!

Thank Gawd we have the MWC 'Hillary' to keep me in check.
Good lookin' out.
Tonya rarely fights my battles anymore.
It takes a village, unfortunately that village is NOT Durand.
I call 'puppet regime'.
Pie-Gate begins.
