I'm gonna be in Edinburg, IN for 2 weeks at the army base, might have my XJ with me... any trails in the area? It's about a half-hour south of Indianapolis. I know about the Badlands, but it's a little far away to do a quick ride, looking more for a forest or something with Green/low-Blue trails.

I'm going to guess it's roughly an hour from Edinburgh.

There's a run this weekend if you're interested. Check the trail ride section.

oops, should have mentioned I'll be in Edinburg in the end of July. thanks for the info, it looks like a cool place. :)

redbird is probably about 2 hours from atterbury. we used to have a local trail that would have been ideal for what you are talking about, but it is closed.

your best options are badlands, redbird, and haspin acres.

have you looked into haspin acres, they have a lot of stuff, campsites and such. not sure about trail ratings yet? oh, its a lil south near laurel

I'm originally from Edinburgh. You're about 45 minutes south of Indy on a good day and if you're dyin' to wheel, go to Haspin, Redbird or Badlands.

Here's a piece of advice for ya. If you cross the road into "Johnson County Park," there are a lot of old roads/trails that are pretty good, but do NOT for any reason get on them. The Conservation Officers will have your ass. Military or not. Trust me. Just some friendly advice.

thanks for the info :) 45 minutes? ah well, I've never driven it myself, always been driven down in a bus or van from the airport. :-D

I know enough to stay off of trails if I don't know for sure that they're legal... no legal trails at all in my state, we have to goto PA and NJ to wheel. Haspin Acres looks like the closest... cool stuff

45 minutes

I can get from the Edinburg on ramp to I-465 in Indy in just over 20 minutes at 75 mph.

I could get to Castleton from Edinburg in less than 45 minutes.

I'm going back on what I said. I lived in the Castleton area for a little while and that's where I based my statement. Going home (Edinburgh, DON'T FORGET THE "H") from Caslteton is about 45 minutes. There. Clear as mud.

Hey I remembered in the first post.

Theres a gravel pit with a lake and some trails in edinburg, there are some pretty deep holes there. One hole is probably 5-6 feet deep, but theres also some milder trails.

Yeah. On 31 just about a mile south of the enterance to Atterbury on the west side of the road. There's several lakes in there. I used to swear up and down people would dump bodies in there, but there are some good holes back there.

Camp Atterbury, spending 16 days there for a search and rescue school. Last year one of the safety guys got his Ford Exploder stuck in a small rut, had to bring out a Deuce to pull him out. great pics :-D been better if it was my XJ, but alas it was back home.

yeah... when I was there last summer, they had sprayed the area with tons of chemicals to kill the mosquitos and such, but not the chiggers apparently. I made it through 13 days without getting them, but they caught me when I was laying in the grass waiting for the search teams to find me. itched like nothing else for a week
