99 mercury sable 3.0 OHV Automatic.
I noticed this when working on the car today which has me really confused.
My driveway is pretty steep and for whatever reason I put the transmission in first gear(just to test it out) and took my foot off the brake and the car rolled backwards. It was as if it was not in gear at all. On level ground putting it into first acts normal, let your foot off the brake the car moves forward. On my steep driveway in Drive it acts normal and the car doesn't roll back.
My mom had someone rebuild the transmission recently and it has been acting odd she said ever since. Something else I noticed which may or may not be related. Turning the ignition off the key got stuck several times for me, moving the wheel and wiggling the key did nothing. Putting the car out of park and with a quick move back to Park freed the key up instantly. I didn't force it back into park but just did a quicker/harder move back to park and it seemed to shift Fully into park doing it that way.
