Another MJ build thread ...

That plastic stuff along the lower trim that's falling off I think

Ive glued most of it back on. I don't think one of the quarter panels even had it when I cut if off and the other one was thrashed so I junked it. I have one piece I need to glue back on.

Been driving the MJ around a lot for fun, including to work.

Between the spring over in the rear, better shackle angle with the shorter shackles, and lifting the front another inch and bringing the uppers in 1/2", the damn thing drives 75mph like its on rails.

That's great Jon! What do you wheel more? This or the 40?

SO the MJ started just randomly dying while driving.

Normally id chalk that up to NSS or CPS.

NSS was cleaned months ago and the CPS is brand new since right before SF>

any ideas.

I disconnected the TPS and it started right up.

WTF.

Mine started doing that after the kids broke the clock spring. The cc is messing with the throttle sensor now.

Wait what? the stock spring can cause that ?
I am pretty sure my clock spring is fubar since the column is kinda messed up.

I feel like it may not be the same on the 87 though.
I cant find anything to verify it.
Plus my TPS has a second ground straight to the battery.
although when I disco'd the TPS it started right up.

Doubt that the clock spring is the issue on a renix.
If you hold the key between start and run after it turns over does it stay running?
Also, fuel pump ballast resistor bypassed?

Ill look into this Jeremy

Yea a clock spring on the renix is just a horn won't have a drivabilty issue unless something is shorted out in the harness

OK this is great to know!

I will look for frayed wires or marginal sensors.

Jus about everything is new, so this is going to be interesting...

I haven't done coil, or the cap+ rotor, so ill check those out.

a previous owner had spliced into the 02 sensor wiring, so I redid the splices, some where questionable.

bypassed the ballast resistor for the fuel pump,
cleaned the battery terminals.
cleaned the c101.

all the sensors are new , I plan to replace the ignition coil.

thing is driving fine now.

any other ideas on why it would randomly die ?

maybe the ignition switch? I dunno at this point.
