For those who are curious, I was able to get a new trans from Matt. I got the install finished up on Saturday and left Moab on Sun.
The fan pulley issue was fixed by routing a shorter belt (from an 83 full size cherokee with the 4.2L). Instead of going from AC to alt to mech fan pulley to crank it now goes AC alt crank. there is less contact with the alt and crank, but there have been no issues with that on the drive home.
I noticed an issue with the transfer case shift linkage after the trans swap. the tc would not come out of 4lo. I had to take the linkage off from the keyed stud on the tc and use a crecent wrench to shift it back into 2H manually. I have had to deal with the linkage before to replace the bushings (which got damaged again in the trans swap) so a replacement shifter system (novack) shifter is on my wish list.
I had some issues with erratic cooling on the way home. Most of the time I actually had an over cooling situation. I will attribute that to a 3 core radiator in the very (for me) cold weather. on some of the uphills I did nearly overheat a couple times. I think it may be an air bubble still in the system. The taurus fan is making a grinding noise so that must be replaced as well.
But I made it home safe and sound and now I get to work on unpacking and slowly start fixing the heep as soon as I recover$ from Moab.
a BIG THANKS to those who helped me out! I couldnt have done it with out your guys' help!
