I'm not really into using this specific forum for audio, but it is called street and performance. Why not.

I'm not really into hardcore sound or the high dollar names. I'm running a Panasonic mp3 deck with pana 6.5s in the front and pioneer(methinks) 6x9s in the back. I've been wanting to run a sub forever and even bought a handmade box from someone on this board to fit in the cubbyhole area of the xj.

From all the research I've done, I can tell that I really want this sub and won't settle on anything less:

I like the huge surround on it as well as the high sensitivity level.

Now for the amp, I wanna save some scratch even though that is usually a no-no. I know I want to push at least 250 watts rms to power this sub, correct? So how is this:

It pushes 280 watts bridged and seems like it might be the ticket.

I could score both of these off of ebay for under $200 and still have a little cash to invest in wiring. Whatcha think?

You're on the right track. Infinity and MTX are not top of line, but they are some great products, no doubt. Check the RMS on that sub. You can run less than that, but if you do you may lose some pickups in the bass lines 'cause you don't have enough power.

My friend ran a 10" Infinity sub with 900 watts RMS to it no problem and it would BUMP, all while still sounding pretty clear with minimum distortion.

I run a 10" Eclipse Sub powered by a 4-channel Eclipse amp pushing 250 watts (two bridged 125 watt channels) to the sub... I can make my hang tag spin when I turn the bass to +3 with my homeboy mix CD in. You should be good to go.

Just to give you an idea...

Good luck.

I'm like you, I don't need the fancy names, I just want it to sound good:D

Here's my setup in my XJ:

Dual AM/FM CD/MP3/WMA deck with iPod input
4 Kenwood 5.25" speakers in doors and rear hatch (behind factory Jensen metal grills)
Pyramid PB550 amp (bridged output 400W RMS) feeding my sub
Rockford Fosgate P210S4 10" sub in cubby hole enclosure, built by me:D

i am with all of you. dont need alot of sub but wanted some. i run 2 10 explode 800 watt subs with 25 rms to each. i got these units at great old walmart. i have like 250-300 in the whole set up and they bump harder than my friends that run mtx and infinty 12's with 500 watts to them. needless to say they arent happy with me but i love them. i am building a custom box to house them and hold my spare in the back. i will get some pics when i can

check the mounting depth of that infinity sub. If you're mounting like the last pic, I don't know how much depth you'll have. I think the magnet on my mtx 7500 would protrude an inch or two out of the body.

Good point chief, but the box itself takes up the cubbyhole and extends another 4 or 5 inches into the floor. I do definitely need to take some measurements before buying, but I can't imagine it not being able to take at least 5 or 6 inches of depth.

the perfect is a great sub IMO. they are said to be a comprimise between power and sound quality. to my ears it sounded very good and loud. one of those cases of being good at lots of things but not great at anything.

eclipse stuff is nice (and expensive) but a friend's quality issues with his head unit have steered me away from them.
