Amp issues

Last time I knew the amp was working. It's a crappy Pyramid PB417x. Got a new inline fuse holder, new RCA cables and power/ground cable. It goes into protect mode as soon as the HU comes on.

Power cable is hooked up how it should. RCAs hooked up how it should and remote turn on wire is 16gauge (possible issue?) ground cable is grounded. All fuses are still good... not sure what's going on. Ground/power cables are both 8gauge

Had this set up in my last Jeep a year or so ago and worked just fine. Do I have an electrical gremlin somewhere?

I also have a horn issue (dunno if it's related) it randomly honks on it's own and I gotta slam down the horn to get it to stop. Today when I was messing with the stereo again and went to test it, the horn came on. Turned it back to off, turned it back to ACC and horn went on again.

I'm frustrated with the stereo right now because I want a sub going =/

The HU is an Alpine Ida-x200. Has a built in amp but don't think that is causing the issue. Tried the setup with another HU and same thing...

I've tried Crutchfield but some think the amp is bad, but I want to rule out a Jeep electrical gremlin because I don't really want to drop the $$ for another amp, + I tried hooking up a Memphis monoblock amp and did same thing...

If the amp is going into protect mode right away its either the amp could bad or the speakers your trying to run could be blown.

What kind of speakers and how many are you trying to run?

How are they wired? Series or parallel?

Did you try disconnecting the speakers to see if the amp stops going into protect mode?

The wiring sounds like its ok. The 16ga remote should be fine since it only turns the amp on but doesn't carry any amperage.
