recently while checking out google earth, i noticed a "road" in an area of the trinity alps that i thought was wilderness....

for thos of you not familiar, this is an area in norhtern california, about 1 hours west of redding.

the name of the road on google earth was "trail dr." and it starts out right at the norhtern tip of trinity lake at a road called buckeye creek and heads west into the alps.

now, here is the interesting part... this road appears to meander through the mountains and work its way up to the massive granite peaks of the trinity alps. once there it traverses the ridge line, and makes its way past several small glacial lakes, and eventually dead ends at one of these lakes.

has any one on here ever heard of this trail???
or know of any "old timers" who know of it.

if this is a legit trail... man oh man....

in the mean time i am going to be doing a little research on this.

any of you who are interested in it please ask around, and post up any info you have, and or find.

oh yeah, if you want the google earth co-ordinates let me know. i already closed it down, and i am tired... i will just go ahead and post them in the morning

There are a bunch of roads in wilderness areas left over from mining operations, I imagine this is one of them. If you read the Wilderness Act of 1964, those roads are actually exempt from some regulations, and can be used by the Fedderal Mining claim owner to access his mine. Pretty cool, if you own a mine!

for google earth guys, here are the approx coordinates fot the start of trail dr.

41*02'49.09 N 122* 43'07.71 W

Hmm, those didn't work for me. No results found. Is the format right?

I see the "Trail Dr." in Google, but I don't see any road where it is marked. If you zoom in far enough, the road starts out as Buckeye Creek, but once you get towards the end of the first valley there is no evidence of a road where google is showing Trail Dr. and there is little doubt in my mind there is no road on the peaks it eventually is shown on.

i know it doesnt look like much more than a pipe dream, but if it is passable it will be cool. i will probably check it out in the spring once the snow melts off, as my rig wont be done before snow flys......
