Aluminum Coolant Bottle- Renix

I got tired of mine cracking all the time a couple of years ago so i made one out of stainless steel. it hasent cracked yet, it looks small but it holds a little more coolant then the stock tank does
I think i have posted it here somwhere before but here it is again:

Thanks for posting that. I'll run out into the garage and whip one up in a few minutes. LOL.

Well not in elementry school but if you take the automotive school you learn how to weld with a MIG/TIG, Stickwelding and welding with an oxy acetylene torch.
For some reason you even learn the basics of how to use a lathe.

I thought that was useless at the time but now i have a lathe in my garage along with both a MIG and a TIG welder...

Ecomike: I saw your "fix" of putting a brass nipple inside the plastic bottom nipple of the
Renix tank. How does this prevent cracking of the tank? My current tank is cracking on the top side. I never had a leak at the nipple, always some where else. Thanks!

The Volvo bottle cap is the key. It is not as tall and does not hit the hood. The current bottle caps that come with the bottles are too tall, the hood crushes them and the bottle, and stresses the bottle cracking them.

Also the bottom nipple needs a metal insert like the side nipple comes with, or else they deform under clamp pressure as the heat cycles, and then they leak there, loosing pressure and raising the coolant temperature.

I have two renix rigs with 5 year old China junk Renix bottles that are leak and crack free, both have the brass nipple inside the bottom of the tube added, and the volvo cap, and the other heating issues are fixed on both.

See Mu-A-Dib's photos of the brass nipple, inside the plastic bottom nipple, Mod. It works great. I have two now that have lasted about 5 years on DDs, in 105 F heat waves in humid Houston with AC on MAX!!

I have yet to have a Volvo cap leak or come loose!!! They are not as tall, do not hit the hood (which crushes the bottle using the stock cap), and they have a superior shape that keeps them from swelling.

When I had my '88 I used a Moroso 63650. Available at Summit, JEGS, etc.I got mine at a local speed shop. Currently about $80.

Got the Mac's tank today. Packaged nicely, fast shipping. Not that I am an expert, but the welds are consistent and appear to well done.

Interestingly, from the bottom of the tank to the top of the radiator cap is 4". My Chinese crap tank tilts the Volvo cap up on one end, with an overall height of 5". The Chinese crap has indented my hood's sound proofing, so maybe there are different heights of Chinese crap products? I know Ecomike said his tank combo did not hit the hood. This tank was a Dorman. Anyway, it going in the recycle bin to reappear as some other Chinese crap:)
