not many.

about 10 mags of the FMJ just to make sure it functions. I adjusted the rear sight a little too. Shot left no matter what I did. It's pretty dead on now with regular blazer.

My cheapness precludes me buying more than 30 minutes of indoor range time, but it's too cold to go shoot outside.

It always ran the blazer best.... I ran a bunch of other cheap brass cased brands through it and it didn't enjoy them.


I'm on the hunt for a new carry piece myself, Probably a full frame 9mm....
 
Went to a LGS today (Terre Haute Guns) and this came home with me.

 
Put some through it and pick up a holster then start carrying it.
 
Got to get carry license and take some classes before I will carry.
 
Well my rem 700 is getting closer to being finished. Swapped out the factory xmark trigger for a timney 510(set at 1.5lbs) and upgraded optics to a SWFA fixed 16x mil/mil optic. Really just need to pick up a good bipod like a harris, some sort of cheek rest, and an anti cant device and I think I will be done. Was considering having some barrel work done like recrowning, and threaded with a break but I am looking into a possible barrel swap that probably won't happen for a while to a caliber change to 6.5 creedmoor. If I do the barrel swap I will have the action and everything trued while they have it apart. Damn this is never ending haha.

 
I am looking for a compact carry gun for Lar. She gets nervous sometimes showing rentals in the evening alone. We will both have our carry license this spring, I hope.
She wants a small caliber, like a .22 or a .38, something with out much kick and can be concealed easily.
Any suggestions, what do your women carry?
My thoughts on guns are like engines, bigger is better....

I personally do not think a .22 is a good personal defense round, much better suited for target and more of an intro to firearms round due to low/no recoil. Depending on her hand size may look at the lcp or bodygaurd which is .380 or lc9 which is 9mm. My experience is .380's typically have more muzzle rise than a 9mm so may consider looking at a small single stack 9mm also.

The best advice I can give and have been given is this. You CAN NOT pick a gun for you wife/girlfriend, she must pick her own. Take her around to several gun shops and let her handle several until she finds one that she likes the feel of. If she finds a couple, some ranges have rentals or offer a deal where you pay a small fee and get to shoot several different hand guns so she can shoot them to help her make her choice. But at the very least let her handle several and find one she likes. Wouldn't want someone picking a handgun for you would you?

She is well versed in guns, she used to be a class A trap shooter, she has not been around hand guns very much, she thinks she wants a revolver.
 
Those titanium hammer-less revolvers are NICE.

I could never get into wheel guns so I can't be of much help there. And I said "pick" not buy, haha.
 
I only own two wheel guns and I love my security six, but it isn't a carry gun. I just bought a XD9 as a potential carry gun later. I love it. It is double stack, so it is a bit heavier fully loaded (16 rounds on extended mag, 13 on smaller). I did almost buy a XDs in 9mm, but decided not to.

From 10-15' out with slow fire 10 rounds.


Same distance, rapid fire 14 rounds.
 
colt 1903/1908/baby browning.

a .25 isn't much more powerful than .22 LR, and has the weak recoil to match, but it's centerfire and much more reliable.

I bought the wife her first gun a few years ago. Taurus Ultralite in .38 special. I love it, she says it hurts her hand. Revolvers are simple, hence they make good carry guns. No safety, trigger lock, slide lock, magazine release, etc. to complicate the shooter's action in a defensive situation. Just pull the trigger and it goes bang.

I bought her a Taurus 709 after that. She likes the semi-auto because it gives some relief to the recoil. Single stack 9mm, hammerless with a safety. She likes it because it's small, fits her well and I like it because it shoots straight and she's comfortable with it. The downside is the lack of accessories, if I had to do it again I would have bought something where the magazines weren't $35 a piece.

Of course, she also shoots my Kimber 1911 and doesn't have any trouble handling it. But she can't carry it because I do.

Lar isn't the type of person who needs a "girl" gun or a small caliber. Any of the semi-autos are nice to shoot. I wouldn't rule out a revolver if that's what she's comfortable with. My wife's Taurus is very comfortable with the rosewood grips that I put on it and I know it's dead nuts reliable. You're basically looking at how effective she is with whatever she chooses in her hands and that comes from practice.

gonna set it up "hunter/rancher" style.

wood furniture and such. no rails, no para-military wanna-be bullshit.

let's start there, and you guys spend my money for me.
