That f-ing graph everyone has latched onto only shows 1000 years. Look at the big picture. On a planet whose age is over 6 billion years, our (human) existance is quite literally a blink of an eye. We are coming out of an ice age but to get a good idea of what that looks llike you need to look at tens of thousands of years. At one point in time there was one supercontinent with a tropical climate. We could very well be headed back that way but we'll, nor our children or grandchildren may ever see it.
We're killing ourselves really. Uncontrolled populations, disease, pollution... I think it's almost inevitable. We can recycle everything and cruise around on roller skates but once we deplete our finite resources (ie. water) something will give. I'm not promoting irresponsibility but I'm not giving up my V8 either. A happy medium can be accomplished here if some politicians REALLY cared rather than just looking for a platform or a party to blame. I can tell you that neither left nor right truely care about funding environmental projects otherwise I'd have a lot more funding right now. Votes and public image dictate where the money goes...
phew... my .02
