airsoft for tire balancing

I been running the 20g pellets in my 35x12.50x15 Swampers for 3 weeks now on and off-road with no problems (alittle noise when you stop), put in a total of 5000 pellets for 4 tires works out to like 8-1/4 oz per tire.

I put 8oz in each of my tires (33x12.50 MTR). Around 40-50, I start getting an interesting wobble. But, if I slow down a little, it'll subside, and I can accelerate. But, I do get a vibration at 70. Not too bad, but it's there. I'm going to play with tire pressure before I break the bead again.

Had the beads in for like 4 weeks now with no problems at all, (little noisy coming to a stop but that’s it).

Off-road trips, Chivo Falls, Martinez Canyon & Power line (AZ trails)

Towing – around 500 miles

Interstate driving – 50 miles @ 70 mph

Daily driver duty – about two weeks worth (34 miles round trip to work + whatever)

I’m running 5000 – 20g Soft pellets total, works out to like 8-1/4 oz per tire.

I like it

After working very hard to try and work out the bugs, I finally gave up and removed my airsoft. I would get this horrible wobble at 45mph. I tried changing air pressure, adding and decreasing the amount of beads in the tires. I just gave up and removed them and ballanced them with regular wheel weights. I drove up to 80 mph, and it was as smooth as glass. I really wanted the airsoft to work for me, but I didn't have much luck. I've heard lots of good things from other people, so good luck to all others who try it. You may have better luck than me.

what tires and what size? how many pellets (weight) did you add per tire?

33X12.50 15 Goodyear MTR. I started off with 8 oz. per tire. Had the wobble at 45. I had my tire pressure set at 27 to begin with. Tried bumping up to 29. No better. Then I went ahead and bumper the weight up to 9 oz. per tire, and back to 27 psi. No better. I tried rotating to see if the vibration moved around the vehicle. No luck. Tried going back up to 30 psi. No better. Got pissed. Threw away the beads and reballanced with regular wheel weights. Nice and smooth now! LOL

I'm just happy I can do all of this myself and not have to pay someone. Would have been expencive!!!

Strange. It seems pretty random who has the pellets work out for them, or perhaps we all hold different standards. I dunno. :)

When I first installed mine I hated them and thought it was horrible.. but before I started putting weights on the tires, i decided to do things like tie rod ends, balljoints, ujoints and rebalance my driveshafts. Amazingly, the tires are great after that. :)

I used the ceramic beads from www.innovativebalancing.com.

I know it doesn't really answer your question but it's another alternative and at the very least they have a chart of how much weight to use for different sized tires.

i ordered these ceramic beads from www.innovativebalancing for my new 31 mt/r's and they sucked, also there customer support sucked. When you put the beads in and notice they dont work after 50mph, they will tell you to get it balanced with regular weights.......

I bought $20 worth of .12 green airsoft which was 5000 pellets and I distributed them evenly into my two front tsl sxs and it didn't work. Did I buy the wrong kind?

sounds like perhaps waaaay too much weight. :)

You should have started with about 1000 per tire .. not 2500?

you should use a scale and measure Xoz. or pellets for your tires, not just dump half the jar in the tire. on my 31's it took almost 7oz to balance them. on my wifes 33's it only took 6oz to balance them. different tires require different amounts.

Adding too much wont really have a negative affect...within reason....im sure if you went and stuffed 10 pounds worth in each tire, there might be a problem.

Most cases that ive seen of people not being pleased with bead balancing tires have been due to cases of bent or out of round rims, or alignment issues(slight death wobble mistaken for out of balance tires).

If the rims are straight, tires are round and the alignment is halfway within spec, there is no reason why the beads shouldnt solve any balance issues.

I was thinking of trying this myself. My idea was to take the weights off and have the tire store spin each tire on their tire balancer and see how much weight each tire requires. Then use that much in airsoft weight.

I have these in my current tires and they work great. With that being said, I have another set of tires in the 35 size flavor and I know that one of the tires has a flat spot. Do you think the bb's will help smooth the flat spot out at all?

who has done it and how many ounces per tire. 10,000 air soft pellets can be had for around 20.00. Dont know how that relates per oz of weight thought

have 10 35" MTR's and Beadlocks to balance.

search did little to help

9-12 oz
