Aftermarket radiator

These guys do not build that radiator, they buy it from someone else. As far as i can tell so far it is made by Visteon, i found the same radiator from RadiatorWorld.com for $116 shipped to the door.

If you call the 1-800 # listed at this site, you can talk to a guy by the name of Steve he can build a custom aluminum radiator for the XJ. I ordered the single tube model for now but he is going to call me monday with a price on a custom ALL aluminum rad with two 1" wide tubes and aluminum tanks. I will post back here with the quote as soon as i get it.

Okay, Steve from Mac's Radiator in Portland (radiatorworld.com) told me he could make an all aluminum radiator for $450 this would be a two row with 1" wide tubes and would have all the correct bracketry for the XJ. I don't think this comes with a transcooler thought as for my application i have removed from the circuit.

As a side note the website http://www.macsradiator.com/ listed a aluminum overflow bottle for the 87-90 open system, for those that want to keep the old system you wouldn't have to replace bottles ever again.

What do they get clogged with if you always used distilled water and stuff? Just wondering, because I've got a CSF 3 core and live in Texas, and it tends to get hot out here--had good luck with it so far though.

I would also like to know the answer to that question as well. I just got the 3 row CSF (not installed yet), and my cooling system will then consist of a hesco hi-flow water pump, bored out t-housing, lower flow thermostat, open cooling system and then the 3 row CSF radiator. I would imagine that this is about as advanced as you could get the XJ's cooling system but i'll let ya know.
So what the hell does clog up the rows when you have nothing but antifreeze & water in there?????????

Actually bad grounds can contribute to radiator clogging. With a bad ground or two the electrical system will use the coolant as a path and as a result you end up with electrolisys and the materials in the coolant itself will literally plate themselves to the rad and water passages very similar to the way chrome, nickel, brass and almost any other plating is done.
This might make some interesting reading for you unbelivers..

Could just be crap in your engine that gets moved into the rad.

When you swap the rad, run a 7 hour cleaner the day before, that way all the crap goes into your old rad. Then stick a hose in the t-stat opening and make surte the engine is flushed out.

I would flush the new rad out too, just to make sure.

Here is another good read and info for cooling systems and electrolysis issues with some simple tests too...

Well, after buying my super dooper CSF 3 row, it turns out that I have a broken tube, after just 10 months of use.

No offroading, not weird driving, just normal everyday use.

CSF will no longer my vote of confidence.

2-row Modine from Napa here I come!!

I hope GDI doesn't screw up Modine.

GDI's are now made in Mexico.... thats why their quality has gone down the drain in the past few years.... time will tell if their factory down in mexico can screw up modine's design...
im glad i got mine b4 this happened

Someone mentioned it in an earlier thread but water wetter should be the first thing every xj owner buys. Get it before silly things like food, water or diapers for the kid. The stuff has ben in eery vehical I've owned for years and always keeps things cool and I've never had a cooling system problem....ever.

Water wetter works when there isnt a major problem with the cooling system.

It did absolutely nothing for me as I had other problems with the system, so I will be interested to see if it is needed when I fix the issues.

Would flushing your radiator or cooling system unclog a restricted flow radiator?????

it helps to unclog a rad..... but theres only so much calcified sediment that that can take out.... after some point you need to bite the bullet & get a new rad

Actually you have it backwards. They used to be made in Mexico, but now they are made in China. :D

That really sucks about GDI buying out modine. I need a new one since my clutch fan ate my old one (bad motor mount). Its not leaking anymore since I put stop leak in it but I dont like a band aide fix. I guess I'll hold off a little bit since I can, and see if people start complaining about Modines now.

OK........ the 3 row CSF is in and i havent gotten her over 210 !!! I also have the hesco pump, t-housing & hi-flow t-stat so shes running great! She also recieved a ful performance tune up, MSD 8.5 wires, blaster 2 coil, accel cap & rotor, ngk plugs, cut cat off & ran it straight into the borla muffler and dumped it out the side. I'll keep a temp update as it normaly runs around 190 unles i ride her hard.

ETC.
