advice on car alarm...

Looks like I found another car to drive (thanks to Hellbent!), and i'd like to keep this one from being stolen like my saturn was. So... I need advice on car alarms.

Anyone have a hookup on them, or know where I can get one pretty cheap? I can do the install no problem, but I would like to avoid paying more than 150$ or so.

Also, what kind of features should I be looking for? I'm figuring glassbreak/vibration sensors, but beyond that I don't know what else to look at. What about paging alarms (the kind that send a signal to they keyfob if the alarm goes off)? Anyone have experience or oppinions on them?

Thanks in advance.

^^ Gotta agree with that one. I did a kill switch that cuts off all power to the gas tank. Meaning the gas gauge even says empty to help confuse the perp. :twak:

But on an alarm note, I have a "cheaper" Autopage alarm with a pager that goes off when someone F's with my jeep. So im that guys that runs outta stores and such.....:laugh3: The thing also has a pretty good range. Depending on the terrain it usually works to a quarter mile. HTH.

Just to give you an idea, this is the one I have: http://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside...4&prodID=05a5af9c-7d0a-4537-8906-aa09f79d95e1

I like the silent/pager alarm idea.

Definitely kill/lame switch it. I'd start by pulling injector wires till it just starts and runs like complete crap / won't drive without stalling out, then killswitch those injectors, maybe put a large (3-5 ohm, 20 watt, may have to experiment with the resistance) ballast resistor in series with the fuel pump on a killswitch so it acts like it's running out of gas when you try and run it without hitting the switch.

Mike look into a piezo siren for inside the car too. I've seen a number of alarms go off and people don't pay attention but a couple hundred decibles inside the car tends to make working on the alarm to diable it really uncomfortable. (And can possibly cause hearing loss too)

Other than that I suggest wiring it up but mounting it in a odd location like behind the radio so its harder to find for them to mess with.

I've got my own killswitch setup I use, don't worry it won't move once I'm done with it, lol.

Thanks for the advice guys. Anyone have brand or model reccomendations?

Dan, I've got a buddy with a semi air horn under his dash that goes off 30 seconds after the door opens if you don't hit a button. I think that's pretty effective :D

Wow!! Great Deal. I park my rig outside now and we keep getting gang bangers up scouting out homes and cars. I think they are trying to figure out which homes are vacation properties so they can come up later and rob them. It has been years since there has been any burgleries in our neighborhood, but in the last couple months there has been dozens. (Cars and Homes included) I just got a couple guns for the house and the alarm was next on the list to protect the rig. Looks like I found what I was looking for. Thanks Robert.

Oh Hell yeah!!! I just realized this kit comes with a remote engine start. That would be worth the asking price alone. I BADLY want to be able to start my rig in the winter from the comfort of my warm cozy home so it's nice and toasty when I get it.

i have an autopage alarm in my XJ, its been fine for the last 6 years.. who put your alarm in skull_black? you should have a warranty from them, and autopage has great customer service. i like it because its got 3 extra outputs to trigger relays via certain button combinations.. so I can turn on my spotlights, my power inverter, remote start, whatever i want to set them up as without getting into the truck. I'd like something similar just because i like having the option available if i decide to do something with them.

thanks guys, keep the advice coming.

think forest fall should put up a "friendly neighborhood watch check point" at the main road...gang bangers dont like check points..put the cops to work.
