adopt a newbie feedback...

okay, here's what I think so far...

One day, Friday of Winterfest we will be having an "Adopt a Newbie/Trail 101" run.

This (thus far) will all start after the drivers meeting, we will have up to 45 minutes or so to answer questions, educate on proper trail recovery, trail etiquitte, and answer questions the newbs may have.

We will be attempting to move away from the one-on-one aspect and move towards more of the class room venue. (I would have stayed in school longer if my class room was at the badlands). ALL rigs that wish to participate will be running green trail reguardless of how well your rig is built. We will not be a part of the green group. In the after noon and Sat you will be able to run other trails that may suit your rigs abilities.

Still working out the wrinkles, tell me what you think...

Dan

I like it Dan, I'd be glad to help with it as well.

Well i thoughtt i posted a reply but apparently i still havnt figured this thing out. But as some of you know im a newb and i think this is a great idea. I plan on going to WF this year, and i know if i go ill be running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I do plan on making it to the badlands before WF so i can at least get a feel for the trails. But having a veteran wheeler there to help out would be great. I know my jeep can do alot, im just not sure what yet. lol. And having someone there could really help me get a feel for how my jeep performes, and the proper way to do things.
(Jeep should be out of the shop this week. Finally get to try out the lockers. First time with them, super excited!!)

I will be your sponsor, but you will have to wear a Wisconsin Badgers sweatshirt

we are going to have plenty of experienced wheelers on hand to help with questions and demonstartaions etc. I think the "classroom" session is a great idea and I really appreciate the effort we are seeing going into this. Dan, thanks for bringing this up early so we have it ready to roll.

Yes, there will be more than just leader/gunner. The numbers of BB's will be determined by the number of newbs.

I really want to get this refined and become beneficial to wf and our club. It may take a few years, but I'm sure we can get it to work. We're heading in the right direction.

Dan.

Sounds like a good plan to me. If there is anything I can do to help out I would be willing to lend a hand.

I like it. Totally on board. Sign me up.

Hey now, josh took his newb down the same path he took as a newb...

that path just happened to involve hitting a tree :D

One small bit of feedback from last year. Our group got split and the people left behind... well some were pretty green, and lost ;)

Trail Leaders need to set aside other events they would like to attend and focus on the responsibility of getting their group though the trail and back to camp safely.

I had a great time as a Newbie last year, even if I didn't need it. I didn't run green on the last day but the group was huge and I think that was part of the problem.

I think one huge help would be a better trail map. Maybe layed out for what we are going to run each day?

This won't happen this year because we will be in one group with vet drivers, and the "classroom" time will be covering how important it is to always keep the guy behind you in your mirror and what to do if you lose him, and what to do if it is you that can't see the guy in front.

The leaders aren't pushing through the trails, the leaders can only see one or two rigs behind themselves, which is why communications is a must. Hence the requirement of CB radios.

Thanks for the input, this is what we need.

Ron, the class will be verbal and hands on.

I do encourage everyone who is not 100 percent confident to participate.

1 lucky newbie will even be allowed to have a veteran wheeler ride with them, well, lucky may not be the most appropriate word to use. :D.

I am not going to say this will be perfect this year but I can assure you that we are working on making an awesome program
