Addco Sway Bars

I'm not sure what you mean about how they mount... they just replace your stock sways.
I've been running F+R Addcos/ Energy greaseable swaybar busings for roughly 3 years now. The ride is noticeably better, and corners don't freak me out any longer (well it's still a Jeep... so corners don't freak me out as much lol)
 
Im sure others will post, but I enjoy mine very much. I dont have the greasable bushings, so it creaks a lot when cold. Its not a Ferrari, but it is fun to drive and Im much more comfortable (read: not as afraid of flipping over) when "pushing" it. I got mine when Summit had a half off sale a few years ago. Otherwise, Im not sure I would have bought them without knowing how it would handle. Now that I know, I would have paid full price.

The front bar is slightly larger than stock (I still have to measure mine, since my truck is a Limitedand I'm not sure which bar is on the front), but the rear is around 7/8" I think it might be 1/2" stock but I'm not sure if it's that big. Apparently Helwig also makes one in 3/4", but I'm not sure if there's a local place to buy them (I prefer to support local businesses instead of shopping on line;) )

Thanks for the input guys, but I am curious what you consider "pushing" the truck though. I'm pretty comfortable with the trucks handling as it is (even moreso after going to 235/75/15 tires, RS5000's up front, and airshocks out back), but it has scared others (usually others following me into said corners in their sporty cars or while ridding shotgun:laugh3: )

My curiousity in how they mounted is due to the pictures in the link on that Dajiban thread I started in off topic. In one of the B-Vans that they show the rear suspension pics of you can see that the rear bar is an Addco and s mounted to the rear axle using u-bolts. Dad had some issues with that set up on the heavily worked over '62 Plymouth he used to have, and that would constantly walk around on him to the point he finallt pulled it off the car. I just wanted to make sure it was going to use the stock mounting locations instead of their own "bolt on" arrangement.
 
I swear by my addcos and bilstiens. I'm running 255/60/15s and with that suspension setup, I'm not afraid to take corners hard or whip the tail out on a turn in 2nd gear either via oversteering or extra throttle(having a stroker and lsd helps)--it stays planted. The fronts are 1 1/8" and the rears are 7/8". In the very near future, I'll have ironman4x4fab's adjustable control arms and trackbar installed, which will only make things better. If only the scca would let me auto-x with it. . .
 
"Pushing it" for me is usually with the tires about to start squealing around 70-80 mph. The front mounts the same as stock, and the rear is a little wider than stock to it uses a small plate. The plate bolts to the ubolt and the sway bar bolts to that. I wasnt sure at first, but it has held up over time. I hope to get Bilsteins when I have some extra cash laying around.

Do you have any pics of how that looks, just out of curiousity?
 
There is a plate that bolts to the outer two u-bolts and the plate extends out from the leaf spring and the end link bolts to a hole drilled in the plate.

With a fully loaded roof rack. The oversized bars are a must. But still rides much better when empty then other rigs that simply way over stiffen springs and shocks to control sway.
 
Got another question, Dad got to looking at the sway bar bushings and decided they needed to go before long, so I'm figuring on buying the Addco front bar sooner rather than later. What did you guys do for the sway bar link bushings? I should probably be able to get the Energy brand bushings through the local Advance Auto.
 
Digging up this old thread. ADDCO lists their front XJ/MJ 1-18" sway bars as follows:

ADDCO 516: 84-01 XJ Front Sway Bar, 1-1/8"
ADDCO 570: 86-92 MJ Front Sway Bar, 1-1/8"

I ordered the ADDCO 570 for my 91 MJ and it fits well. It was bent a little differently that the late model XJ bar I had on. Yet the XJs and MJs shared the same front ends and same factory way bars. So why do they list two different bars? Did AMC/Mopar change the bar shape through the years? I figure if anyone knew it would be someone here. ADDCO couldn't even give me a reason.

That is kind of strange.

How is it bent differently? Could it be to allow more turning angle with the steering stops maxed out or something like that? Maybe the MJ setup was more geared to a utility rig of some kind?
 
The bends for the ADDCO bar link arms were more severe and sharper than the 26mm 01 XJ bar it replaced. Of course, the link arm mounting holes ended up in the same location, distance and orientation from the front coils. It must be the two different ADDCO part numbers simply refer to different Jeep models, but the bars are probably identical. Although I have not seen the two side-by-side.
 
I finally dug into my Dakota 8.25" SUA swap yesterday and I'm gonna have to get creative to make the rear Addco work.
