Accident on the way home from The Badlands

Got news yesterday that on Saturday, a Terra Jeep Club member was killed on his way home from The Badlands.....12 miles outside of Attica. His name was Bryan Cohen and he lived in St. Charles.

Anyways, the point of the story is that he broke an axle shaft in the rock quarry and decided to drive home without it......leaving the unit-bearing unsupported.

His wheel came off at about 60 MPH and his Jeep (TJ Rubicon) rolled 3 or 4 times.

Just a reminder to be safe out there.

well, you and I (and most people on here) know that.....but obviously he didn't......
You would think...at least i would think that if he was wheeling with a group that someone there would know that and warn him.

Still sucks to hear. I hate hearing about things like this.

man that sucks , when i saw this thread i thought you were going to reference the accident sunday on 80/90 near the ticket booth that made a parking lot for about 4 hours .
we had a small group @ the badlands saturday also . saw you leaving summers campground saturday night.

When its your time, its your time.
whether limping home a broken Jeep
or sitting at home in your lazy boy.

There are no answers.
we are a community.
we should learn from this
and continue to watch over each other.

This is just a damned shame. Hopefully everyone ... especially the less experienced people here ... reads this and knows the consequences of running a unit bearing without a stub shaft. It would have been very easy to stick the damned thing back in there.

PS: Kudos Randy for posting this up.

Is there an online news blip about this anywhere? It'd be great if we could link to it, explain what happened and put it in the main forum (not MWC). Might just save someone from this again, never know.:dunno:

Sad to hear, god bless him and his family. May he rest in peace! At least he went being in a vehicle which he enjoyed, as well as having a fun day of wheeling to say the least.

I knew this guy. He worked for a vendor of mine, and was an absolutely fantastic guy! It is a shame. The VERY WORST part of it all....He left behind 3 young children. 3 kids without a dad.
