yah,
my 4runners brakes went from zero to suck a few months ago.
havent figured it out yet. i mess with it when i can.
its an 86.
i ripped out the stock LSPV(load sensing proprtioning valve) and swapped in a wilwood unit from summit straight into the rear line like many yota forums suggest. then replaced both rear wheel cylinders, front calipers, pads, and a few brake lines, went through 3 MCs until i got a decent NAPA new one , and all the while power bleeding the brakes as i went each time.
adjusted rear shoes by hand to ensure they are adjusted right.

still no brakes...

the booster pushes the rod out, so it seems to work.
its very weird...
i havent replaced the booster or rear shoes if that helps, but have rear shoes in a box. i just hate doing shoes.

im running 31/10.5/15 street tires on it.

just wondering if anyone around sac is down to take a look?
i have done alot of interesting brake system swaps, and never had this problem. no air in the system from what i know

try the yota board on Pirate...beware of flaming Jon!! lol

matter of fact....hit the newbie section and ask :)

alright i figured it out!
ive gone through 2 brand new napa MCs and 2 autozone remans.
still brakes are suck.
read that the 90-95 v6 MC is 1" bore (my 86 is 13/16")
and that their boosters are dual diaphram(mine is single)
went on car part.com today
on my lunch break went and picked a 91 MC adn booster combo for 70$ at a toyota JY
swapped it in tonight and the brakes are BACK!!!
better than ever!
its amazing
stops so good.
next is the v6 calipers!

also at the same time i replaced the driver side front fender since it was all beat to hell
and i finally pulled the tranny pan and replaced the tranny solenoids and filter.
now my auto tranny shifts through the gears again!
so stoked!
a good two nights after work...

i have some 1.5" ball joint spacers and 3" lift springs to go in next, but i need to order ball joints first..

ill throw some pics up soon.
pretty much a stock 86 with 31s, yakima rack and a cool front bumper.
interior is crappy, exterior is OK
ill be throwing the lift on as soon as i get new ball joints.
after the lift its gonna get 5.29s and lockers
ive seen yota rears with detroits and 5.29s go for like 500$.
front IFS chunk with 5.29s and a locker for around 400$.
then some 32s or 33s.
its gonna be a DD so im trying to keep it less built than the XJ,
but i will let my brothers wheel it so im gonna build it up enough so it can haul up the mtn, thus the 5.29s and only hopefully 32s.

Jon-
Glad to hear you figure out your brake issues.

If you plan to wheel your 4Runner, make sure you carry a couple of spare CV's. Most of the system will hold up, but when you start getting into 33" + tall tires, the Front CV's become the weak link and WILL break.

JUst an FYI.

x2, carry spare tie rods as well, my buddy has a 92 ext cab pick up with 33's and bent two tie rods, one just playing around at prairie city and one in the snow. I love yota rear ends but those ifs front ends are garbage... he put an aluminum ford 302 block in it, towd my bronco II up to morman emigrant trail a couple times...It does ok, but usually disapoints for how much money is into it.

thats good to know.
ill pick up some spare tie rods and spare CVs soon then.
i dont plan to go too crazy with this 4runner. i might just end up doing some 4.88s/rear locker, and 31 m/ts and call it good .
down the road itd be nice to throw in straight axle but thats way down the road.
the XJ will be getting a cage first
