Well I think he was trying to sneak his opinion in the description but Im inclined to think a v6 in a jeep is a little closer to gay

SAAB also had a V-4, shared, I think, with the German Ford, which was reputedly pretty good.

Yep - it was the V4 first seen in the 1965 Ford Corsair. Not a bad engine provided it was maintained, but once they started to go they usually blew head gaskets fairly rapidly IIRC.

Comandos are gay?

V-4... They do exist though. You find them on some marine applications and Saab used them on older models. Then theres flat 4s.

I like uncommon engine designs. Isin't Chevy using a straight 5 in trucks now and the first of the big 3 to do it?
There's usually a reason behind why people use similar engine designs...ie an I5 in a truck is a terrible idea. I drove one, drives like the old 4.3, sounds like a 4 banger. GM claims that it has more power than its V6 competitors...to whom are they referring? The Ranger? What happened to Nissan (265hp) or Toyota (245hp)? Sure the 3,5 liter Colorado (220hp) does beat the Ranger (200hp), but that's not much of an accomplishment.

What did you not like about it? Straight engines don't tend to have the best sound. I'm not that impressed with my Jeeps sound (Dynomax aftermarket exhaust) or that of any other I-6 I've heard. Still, the I-6 is my favorite engine configuration. I like other things about inline engines- can be easier to work on for example. I'm assuming they are referring to Ford and Dodge only when they say its more powerful. Toyota and Nissan could very well have them beat. I would take the Chev. I-5 any day over the Dodge 3.7 Esp. because I swore to myself that I would never buy a V6 again (former 2.8l s10 owner).

My only experience with this engine was a customer who had one. He really liked it and said the truck had a perfect mix of just enough power and fuel economy.

For the record, Nissans are a POS!

That's all.
