A Northern Retreat

Hey everyone,

Over the past couple weeks I have been trying to plan an event for us here in the Northern reaches of the MWC. I am attempting this as a way to allow those in this neck of the woods to get together especially since there’s a few of us that didn’t get the WF OH-10 experience. Here is what I have so far…

Late spring early summer, I would like to have an event hosted at Northwoods Overland. (www.northwoodsoverland.com) Located near Rib Lake WI, off of Highway 102, on Spirit Lake. This is a new park which has been trying very hard to provide an off-roading experience in an area which doesn’t offer much to the public. The park has trails ranging from beginner up to ‘Tight & Technical’ including several ‘scramble areas’. Currently the park is only open certain weekends of the season:

May 28-31
June 11-13
June 25-17
July 2-5
September 3-6
September 17-19

I have been in contact with Jeremy, the owner, who has said that if we have a group large enough to require 10 or more campsites, they will open the park up just for us on a weekend other than the ones stated, if they aren’t busy with personal events.

Trail passes are priced as follows:
$20 per vehicle/day
$25 per vehicle/weekend

Camping priced as follows:
Camping is $14 per night for non-electric sites and $20 per night for electric sites.

From Jeremy, ‘Group discounts are available for those camping and using the trails. If you take 3-9 campsites, we'll give you 50% off a weekend trail pass for every vehicle in your group. For 10 or more campsites we offer 75% off a weekend trail pass for every vehicle in the group.’

So I guess what I am asking is if anyone is interested in possibly doing this? If not I won’t continue to plan further, otherwise I plan on spending more time on getting this all set up with some possible help for the experienced guys/gals who run WF…

I'd be up for this. Probably not the September dates, though, looks like I'll either be in Atlanta, or getting ready to head for Moab in October.

Also gotta rebuild that D44 and get it under the XJ first.

Get on that Jeff jeez what a slacker...

I wasn't planning on september either, those are just the dates the offroading part of the camp is open to the public... I was thinking late spring early summer May/June?? It'd be cool if we could get enough people so they open it just for us...

<chuckle> We have to get a full server environment with complete high availability configurations set up and running by May 7. I'm gonna be lucky to be able to take a deep breath between now and then.

Early June would probably work for me.

I'd be up for some of that, Austin. I'll watch how this gets planned. I have a couple of others I could talk into going. Probably the June dates before I can get away again. Maybe earlier.

On their blog they said they'd open for other weekends for large groups.
I'm not sure if other dates are better for more people, but later June would be better for me, at least.

i would like to go. the late june one would be the best or even the july 2 one. i might not be around though for the late june. cant remember when i get back from South Dakota. July 2-5 might be busy for the 4th. so whatever weekend you guys choose, ill try.

I think, as of right now, I will plan for it being June 11-13. If we can get at least 10 campsites checked out, We can pick a different date that is not listed if they aren't already busy.

it is 300 miles from the big city....
let me think about it. Possible!!

Cmon Bob, I drove ~10hrs to WF last year and woulda this year... ;)

Let me know whenever you decide... This could also be a good time to show some more 'noobs' the ropes... I just think it'd be cool to have something hosted somewhere different than the usual hangouts...

Google says ~10hrs for me. 560miles
Very doubtful.

Also keep in mind that Carnagefest is usually around that same time. A date and time for that will likely be announced before too long.

Yeah, Austin. While it would be cool to check out a new place. I am not gonna be in the situation to drive my Jeep that far until Next year and that'll be Moab(unless Bmyohn gets a 2 place trailer :D) One day I will try to make it up that way. Never been to WI myself.

Again, just trying to create an opportunity for those of this area and anyone else who would like to show up...

I understand. Its just that the people who do the clean up and A lot of the WF atendees live within a couple hours of the Indiana parks! I hop you guys have a good turn out. There are plenty of you Cheeseheads to go around!

I'd be up for it Austin! That place is an hour and a half from me, and I did 7, or more, to WF. If you want any help let me know!

Never been to WI myself.

We can show you gas stations that sell beer and liquor stores that stay open late. Finding beer in Attica was a pain in the ass, almost like I was underage again trying to find a gas station that wouldn't card me.

Wisconsin is a good time. As my friend pointed out on the way down (He's from MI) that only in WI will you see a billboard that boasts both Fireworks and Cheese.

Can we check into this a little more and see if this is a reasonable spot to hold the "learn to wheel" run that mrmikey32 proposed in a different thread? either way, Im game!
