A Cordless Phone From The UK?

Why?

Aren't you going to spend more money just to adapt the damn thing to work here than you would on a regular setup?

All that Audi stuff is going to your head.

Go to Walmart ya goob.

Yawn. :thumbdn:

The standard for telephony in the US is regulated by the TIA/EIA
No time to dig through the archives. They have the ability to take simple information and package it in a 300 page manual.
Im a telephone and now, Cell tower tech but no not about european standards.
Oh yeah but i know for sure "int " means intercom, i have a 4-handset setup here at home, and they can be used to intercom with.

I have always wondered if someone here was in the same industry as I am. Good to know that there is at least one other person.
I am from the caribbean so of cource I know a lot about the caribbean/US specks on electricity and telephony;... well enough to be a cell tech. I do switches and cellsites in the caribbean, the US as well as several international countries. My first love is RF and optimization both CDMA and GSM. My study is a major in Mechanical engineering with a minor in electrical.

Back to the topic.

The phone from the UK could work in the US. It is a matter of how much value it has to you and how much you want to spend to make it work. You will need to cut the line plug (telephone line not the AC line) off and attach a US style plug. You also need an up-transformer from 110 volts to 220 volts. Like I said before, only the frequency or cycles of the UK unit may be questionable. The UK/Europe is generally 50 cycles/HZ and the US is 60 cycles/HZ. Read the AC input specs on the base unit and make your descision based on the the AC requirements.
Many equipment today (the higher end ones)are built to automatically accept 110 -220 volts and 50 - 60 cycles/HZ. (there are some countries that actually uses 55 cycles/HZ).

Is there such a device? I've never seen one.

Yes, there are several units that works both ways. Both ways means if you put in 220 you get out 110 or if you put in 110 you get out 220.
Check specialty hardware stores or google it. Travel stores also have them as travel accessories.
I have not used them in years sinc my Walmart shaver did not work in Bolivia. The voltage conversion was not the problem. Bolivia use 50HZ and my shaver was 60HZ.

I'm not sure where it says anywhere that I am trying to adapt a phone from the UK. I see alot of people assuming that. But if I was, I'd of said, hey, I am trying to use a phone from the UK. This is a FYI thread that came about because of a conversation I had. Nothing more.................:callme:

I have used the ones that step-down 220 to 110 when I was living in Germany, I just never have seen or heard of ones that step-up 110 to 220. Learn something new everyday.
I've had the problem with HZ with alarm clocks.

Because you're a luddite.

BTW; U-Haul's "Small Box" is perfect for LPs, I'm sure it used to be called "record box."

PS: Not to be confused with Small Pox.
