a/c question

I have a 93 4.0 sport and I just got into an accident. I smashed the A/c condensor and I was wondering ( i still dont know if i actully punctured it tho) if I have r-12 or r-134a in the system? I guess I would need to buy a kit and recharge it, and only get 70% of the cooling power.
so all you xj guys/gals what is my system charged with?

thanks much
nate

Look at the label on the compressor and on the front of the engine compartment, gotta be there somewhere....

I think that it wasn't mandated that everyone use 134 tell 95 but there was some manufactures that used it before then. There will be a lable under the hood some where. there may also be a lable that says that it has been converted to 134. Needlless to say if you have been in an accident chances are that the condensor is bent or punctured. Bent is as bad or worse than punctured. if the condenssor is at all damged it should be replaced. also It is almost impossible to get your a/c to work right with out the proper tools. You need to be able to pull a vacuum on the system and let the vacuum sit on the system for 30 minutes to remove all of the water from the lines. also when you pull a vacuum on the system that will be a good indication that there system has a leak or not. You should be able to hold the vacuum for 30 minutes without moving.
