A/C problems.......

So yesterday I noticed that my A/C was not blowing as cold as usual.....put the guage to it and found 25psi. Bought a small can of 134a and let her rip...psi jumped to 45. Thought all was well....shut the A/C off and killed the ignition. Went into the house took care of some chores about an hour came out to make a run to Walmart and to my surprise there was fluid under my jeep.....WTF.....popped the hood and found that the A/C blew:tears: !! Starte3d the heep and cranked the A/C then put the guage to it....:eyes: 110psi..HOLY...S*I*....!!! bled the preassure down to 55psi and now it blows cool but not cold anymore.........How the hell did that happen? Yes, the A/C was running at max when I checked the pressure!

I've had that happen to me if I didn't let the engine warm all the way up, once the engine bay gets got the condensor gets hot and the pressure shoots through the roof.
Also, is your electric fan working?
Are you talking 55 on the high side or low side?

55 on the low side. Fans are working correctly. I think it may have been a temp spike that did it, because I charged it after returning from the auto parts store.

55 is where I like to keep it on the low side. That is what I was shooting for when I charged it and thought it was fine at 45 BUT.......that was not the case.

my .02 is you need to be looking at the high side. If the low is high and we don't know what the high side is doing there could br a problem...
maybe frankz will pop in though.

It started out not blowing cold - and you probably assumed correctly that the refrigerant was low.

However, a side-effect of this will be frozen/clogged lines.

I'm guessing that one of the lines was frozen partially shut.

You should of have let it thaw out first.

I also think that one of the lines may of had a leak in it anyway.

Do you have a dye/light tester?

No dye. Believe it or not, the damn thing is still working fairly well!?!?!? As long as it is blowing some kinda cold air I will not tear at it!

what does the XJ use to meter? If it's a TXV it could be stuck.

Good question! Not sure............

I am getting preasure spikes.......is this normal? At start-up yesterday morning the system was peaking 105psi and the pump was fightin it!!! It settled down to 45psi after a few minutes.....what the hell is going on here? I do understand that temps will effect pressure but.......
