98XJ: Project Salsa

long day.... but the jeep is on all fours.

brakes are in, lines ran and bled. i made the steering a little bit too long bc i was scared to make it too short, i guess i'll see how it drives. also after i welded in the trackbar mount i realized the damn draglink is gonna smash into it when i steer... how bad would it be to but a bend in the draglink?

i still need a dumb reamer and a 1 5/16" socket to switch out the yoke on the 60... the front DS is too long also so i need to shorten it. another issue is the hose for the front shocks IS going to get eaten by the tire on uptravel so i have to change my mounting.. hopefully just kicking it into the body more will work. i really dont want to open these shocks up to change out the hose fitting... hopefully i can get this stuff sorted out quick.. since this is my DD.. and only car..

come get the reamer! take the front shaft out for now and shorten the draglink, I have extra tube adapters for 1.75 .250 if that helps once its driving measure for the front shaft and shorten it, hell Give it to me and give me a measurement and ill do it

Looks awesome. I never realized how much those Dodge wheels look like factory 97+ XJ steel wheels.

Sounds familiar on bolth counts. My tie rod was too long, and made for an interesting ride. The drag link is still a touch too long, but the steering wheel is only about 1/8 turn off, so it can wait.

I had a question about my coil perches' durability... I have the ballistic perches but to keep the coil from moving around I used a piece of 3" exhaust tube; the coil fits perfect around it and the prothane mint inside it. I was yelled at by my buddies here saying it'll fail, Chris said firi. What say you nac ?

I hate the way my coil mount retains the coil. Shitty design. I looked high and low for some 3 inch OD black pipe, at the home depot, lowes, etc. I finally went to a plumbing supply co. and they had it, but they only sell 10 foot sticks, i need like a foot, and it was $86, no way.

I think i may end up using a piece of dana 30 axle tube, my buddys cutting one up next week, if you want i could get you some. But i think the 30 tube may be too skinny. We'll see i guess.

I wouldnt trust exhaust tubing though, doesnt seem strong enough. Just my 2 cents.

everyine has junk d30 hubs laying around, seperate the hub, take the side that bolts to the knuckle and grind off the 3 flange thingys, presto a coil reatainer fo free

no need for poop pipe or exhaust tube

I got pooopy pipe for bumpstop extensions and I smash them hard without and issue!

so now you will bend the inner fender instead of the bump tower base?

yup, bumpstop tower brace for now, engine cage with air bumps for next season. it'll bolt together over the motor, tie into the firewall, and come out through the front clip into the bumper.
