searched and could not find much on the 97 and up xj's

so

i am looking to install an aftermarket weld on quick release on my 99 xj and i need to know how many splines the jeep has becasue i have heard that the GM 36 fits but just want to confim... i am not concerned about the air bag or cruise since this is a trail only XJ - thanks in advance and if you have pics or a link that would help!

oh ps...

i am looking at the weld on (grant adapter is like 100 bux! and weld ons are in the less than 40 range) so i can also get my steering aligned up front and then put the wheel on so i can finally have a straight steering wheel (mine is off a couple degress - no biggie and i know it comes with the territory on a lifted rig but i want it fixed once and for all!) - also having the disconnect wheel is great for security as well since my heep sits in an open apartment complex and i am moving into a rougher neighborhood...

thanks again and i would count my splines but i am in mexico!:yelclap:

Why not spend the 2 minutes and straighten your steering wheel!

Yes, adjust the draglink. Other than throwing your steering wheel off, your pitman arm won't be centered, allowing you to turn sharper one way than the other.
This may not cause problems, but if a steering stop breaks, you can bust a u-joint by turning too sharp (ask how I know).

ok well my steering is 1.25 DOM with 1.5 heims with the WJ knuckles so adjusting the steering is not the problem - i guess i am looking for a new wheel since mine is toasted and all banged up...

initially my drag link was too short so i cut sleeved and lengthened it so i can get the wheel strait and also got much better heim thread engagement but i am looking for a quick release solution for a steering wheel and was wondering about the spline count and seeing if there are others out there that have installed a QR hub and aftermarket wheel

again thanks for the help - i have been through 5 steering systems (Currie, stock with HD tie rod, Rock Krawler, rugged ridge and now custom WJ with heims) and finally with new ball joints and semi OTK steering have i gotten my angles right, wheels properly aligned and death wobble cured!

i just want to put the icing on the cake with a QR wheel for security and to eliminate air bags and cruise control junk and to also dress up the interior some...

oh and i am sure my bump stops are correct and also drag link - the last thing i want to do is take out a yukon super joint and alloy usa shaft!

ok i will look for his stuff - anyone else know spline count and GM compatable hubs? i want to do a weld on with QR

thanks dudes! i just want a new wheel on my 99 - they are not as easy as the older jeeps which use the GM adapter i guess...

anyone have a part number on his wheel adapter? summit sells a couple... i guess i am going to take my wheel off, count the splines and then go fromt there - for $ wise i am going to get a weld on QR hub for a universal wheel

The problem with newer vehicles and aftermarket steering wheels is that they come standard with airbags.

yeah mine is a trail only vehicle and i have read the pirate thread but there is no indication of part number or spline count - summit racing has that same adapter as a stock image for multiple parts - plus it is close to 120 bucks - i guess i will just get a wheel puller - count them my self and order accordingly - probally just going to go with a weld on quick release 5 bolt hub adapter
