I have searched and can't find what I am looking for. I want to modify the hinges on my 01 2 door for quick release doors. Right now it is lookin like I need to take out all the torx bolts and get the door out of the way in order to get the pins out. Does anyone know how to mod the new style hinges without taking the door off of the hinges?

it can be done without taking the hinges off, but it is a lot easier to cut them when there off. i tried to do it without taking them off, after a nice nick in the body with a grinder, i decided to take the time and get them off.

Jeeper821 & Ramsey, '97+ XJ hinges are different from the older ones. You can't just cut off the bottom part of the hinge to make quick release doors.

Shizza, if you figure out a way to do this, let me know, I'd be very interested in seeing a solution because I've pondered this very question many times...

Ary

BTW, I mean how to make quick release doors, not necessarily without taking the doors off the hinges, I've done that before and it's not that big a deal.

Thanks for the link but as Ary said the hinges are different. I am working on trying to get the torx bolts out now. I already screwed up one of the heads so now I have to figure out how to get that bolt out. Once all the torx bolts are out I am going to replace them with regular bolts. I think that once the doors are off the hinges it shoulden't be to bad cutting the pins out and replacing them all with bolts.

dont tell me that, i have a 99 and that is exactly what i did to make the doors removable.

just cut the bottom part of on the door where the pin connects to it, follow the link on the site from above and follow the steps, it is very simple, you will need to remove the door by unscrewing the torx bolts. then cut the bottom part of so that the pin can drop in and out of the holes. then bolt it back to your car, you might want to mark the original location so it is easier to line up, it still will more than likely take a few tries, dont cut the wires running to the door there is a wiring harness behind the kick panel an there is a harness for the door buzzer and light just under the panel next to the seat

Ramsey, what year model cherokee do you have??? Please let us know---------Kyle

I have a 99.

kyle you ever go riding at barnwell? see you live in texas, might not even be near though, just curious

Hope to go someday, I live way farther south past San Antonio. I am basically on the border.----------Kyle

it would definetly be worth the trip, ought to go and camp out one weekend

if the '97+ hinges won't work couldn't you get some from the junk yard from eariler years??
It might work... at least somthing to get from the yard and them compare at home....
Hmmmmm

THEY WILL WORK!!!!!!!! plus if you got new hinges you would have to cut your old ones of the body and weld on new ones, who wants to do that, especially when it is not needed since 97+ HINGES WILL WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did you do the passenger side? From experience, I know it will not work like the driver's side, as the pin is driven up, not down. TIA
